Good wi-fi/wire router?

Right now I have a d-link DI-524 and it is slow to me.

On my DI-524 router wi-fi / wired I thought that the wireless was slow, (I would only get like 380kb while I would get up to 450kb/ download on my linksys something..) so I attached it to the wired port and I still got the 380... I was like wtf?

I hooked up my linksys and it bumped up to 450 again.. soo my quesiton is this?

Is this the router, can it be the WEP? ( wouldn't that only affect the wireless?) and if it is just a slower router, can anyone recommend me a gaming router with low packet loss?

Thanks,
Arachn1d.

Hey man, i got D-Link Xtreme G DI-624 & yeah, i can have 450kb/s on download after update to latest firmware.
I also got D-Link Xtreme G DWL-G650 which is peace of junk . 1-st was defective so D-link ship me a new & i must say, is a problematic junk .
No new firmware works , my CPU running @ 50% & win XP PRO SP2 can't make conection with router , only on manual . WTF ?
That card is junk , but router works in 3 story house in any room.
I got Comcast & got 4000 down & 340 up on my integrated 802.11G on my lappy with WEP 128bit .

===================
got 450 from microsoft & only from few others , you know , busy & slow server don't give much

the 624 kicks ass, it has way more features than most routers. even has a VCT virtual cable tester!

I've got the DI-524, too. I don't have any issues with it so far. (I'm getting more or less 500 kb/s when surfing the internet). Sometimes, though, the computer I'm using will get bogged down, which will slow down my connection speed. When that happens, I restart the computer and it works fine again.

How is the packetloss in gaming?

For e.g cs? choke = how much?

Thanks..

I don't see any packet loss, but then again, I don't play any graphic-intensive games at the moment.

Your broadband connection is the bottleneck. Any router (even 80211.B, @ 11 Mb) is lots quicker than the typical 3 or 4 Mb max of broadband. Try connecting directly to the Modem and see what your speed is.

Did you not fully read? It's slower with my wireless router than my wired router. I got a linkysys and a d-link. The D-link is slower than the linksys by a 100 k/b on average. And I was mainly asking if it was because of WEP?

Yes wep will slow you down. It *shouldn't* affect your wired connection but it might. I would disable the wireless portion of the router if you aren't using it, and at least to test the speed with wireless off. If the wireless portion *is* causing the speedloss then switch to MAC authentication. MAC will only allow specific computers identified by their Unique MAC address to connect to the router. Make sure you allow the computer you are configuring your router with to connect or else you will have to reset your router.

I definitely recommend the Minitar MN54NGR..its an 802.11G wifi access point with print server...i have this installed at home, connected via adsl and its been working flawlessly...i havent had any drop outs EVER..the longest ive been connected has been 12 days straight on the laptop...the range is superb as i can receive good signal quality from across the street...

and it only cost AU$90 including shipping

disable your wep, have mac filtering only and turn off your ssid, then change your preamble to long or short and see which one is better
