Switched To XPS Gen 2 from 9300

Last week, I ordered the 9300 and it suppose to arrive to my house this week. I'm having second thoughts about the 9300. Especially about the reconditioned WUXGA screens that came from the 9200's and the outdated NVIDA GeForce 6800 Go video card that uses GDDR 1 RAM or GDDR 2 RAM.

Before, looking at the XPS 2, I looked at the Sager 9860, HP ZD8000, Alienware Area-51m 7700.I decided not to have the Alienware and the 9860, because they run hot and did not offer the Geforce Go 6800 Ultra, and are both pricey for what they offer. I liked the HP ZD8000, because of the number pad, but I did not like the x600 videocard they offered with the notebook.

I decided that the XPS 2 is the right laptop for me. I heard that it has the better WUXGA screen than the 9300, it has better parts in the notebook. Currently it has the most powerful videocard for notebooks for gaming. I will return the 9300 back to Dell when it arrives to me house.

Now for the specs of my XPS Gen 2 Notebook.
- Intel® Pentium® M 760 Processor (2GHz/533MHz FSB)
- 17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife
- 1GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz 2 Dimm
- 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 6800 Ultra
- 60GB 7200 RPM HD
- Intel® PRO/Wireless 2915 Internal Wireless (802.11 a/b/g, 54Mbps)
- 24X CD Burner/DVD Combo Drive
- Windows XP Pro
Total Price for the XPS 2 is $2,616.39 with tax, $750 discount, and 2 year warranty (1 year Dell warranty, 1 year American Express Warranty)

How did you save the extra 250 dollars?

How does the American Express warranty thing work? Does it double the warranty automatically? If you get 2 years & 2 years complete care will it double that?

I too am interested in this now. I ordered my 9300 a week ago. Could you possible list the total specs you got. Also what hard drive you got. I might switch mine over to the xps gen 2 if you got that good of a deal when you switched over...

It doubles the warranty automatically. For example if you have a six-month manufacturer's warranty, American Express will add another six months. If you have a one-year manufacturer's warranty, American Express will add one additional year.

No Sh!t...that's a helluva good deal for 1GB of Ram, even with the cheaper optical drive and slower processor....

Since I ordered both and if the xps2 does indeed have the better lcd, my choice will be easy.

NM I probably should just stick with the 9300. From what I heard there are only 2 models of LCD's that Dell is ordering for the xpsgen2 and 9300. They have already been covered as the samsung and lg brands. I guess it is like voting for president... Take the Lesser for the 2 evils.

Slower optical drive? What speed is the faster one, I think I'll have to get that!

The samsung is only a tad better really. It has a gloss coat that has less sparkle from what I heard, but some have light leakage. Either way you go though you don't need to base your choice on screen sense you are going to get the same screen as you would if you got the 9300. The only difference in the xps gen 2 and the 9300 is the flashy design of the xps, the gpu, and the 1 gigabit net. Just pray you get a good screen if you went with an xps gen 2 or i9300... -_-;;
