Crappy ASUS

Hi everyone
JUst a week from now I notices these 2 cracks just beside the hinges of my ASUS M6BN LCD !!! they are beside both hinges and almost at the same spot(symmetrically).
My laptop is just 6 months old !!!
So I'M very pissed because I bought this PC thinking that ASUS had very good quality control over there products.
Has anybody else had this kind of trouble with an ASUS laptop???
I'm thinking of taking mine to the shop and see what the warranty is good for.
Well, hope to have some feedback !

JOrge

Seems like I can't post attachments........... will see how to upload pictures later

I was very surprised also because I take way too much care of it (it did cost me my eyeballs) and usually ASUS products are praised for their high quality

Well, will see what the vendor has to say about it !

hmm, i am also noticing some sort of inward bending at those locations. must be some sort of stress point. i wonder what is behind there causing this. anyone have the time to pop off the back lcd cover and see?
Hmm..

I've dropped mine from 4 feet or so and slammed it into a doorframe as I was walking with it. Nothing but some scratched paint.

what have you been doing with it?

Wow my S5NE has been abused internationally, thrown down to the ground numerous times, had oil spilled on it, thrown around in my bag and all the carbon fibre frame has to show for it is some very minor scratches.

No hinge crack on my M6 either... some minor scratching... and the "Esc" key popped off recently, but I popped it back in. It's semi-loose... but not broken (at least I hope not)

I have that same exact dent. I've recently taken off the screen, and I can tell you there is nothing there that would cause stress. Behind that location are the speakers. If you open up the laptop and look where the rubber stoppers are, that is where the screen is mounted with screws (the screw holding the LCD frame on doubling as a mounting screw for the screen.)

Could it just be a strange "design" or athetic, the dip?
i have a year old M6N and havent had any problems in those affected areas
post #12 of 26
I measured the distance from the dent to the edge, and the distance from the rubber pad concealing the screw to the edge and they are the same, so I guess the mounting point is causing the stress.

If you've only had it six months, then it should still be on warranty if you bought it brand new. You might as well get it RMA'd for repair or replacement.

I took my lappy to the shop (sigmawave) and the tech said they didn't handle anything involving physical problems, great warranty ...........
So now I'm trying to contact Asus directly and see if they have something to say about it.
Thanks to everyone who has shared their experience !!!

Wish me luck !

I've noticed small dents there too but no cracks. Silver bezel around the front has worn a bit and the keys have like finger tap wearing but otherwise its still in good shape.

ASUS's tech support answer

Here is the mail they sent me after I phoned to ASUS tehc support:

"Hi Jorge,

It may be a little bit difficult to tell from the pictures, but the first picture appeared to be more of a scratch than a crack as far as I can tell and the second picture appeared to be more of a dent since the light reflections doesn't appear to be even at that corner.

I wonder if it could be related to the case you were using to transport the notebook?

I would expect cracks to originate closer to the hinge if there was some kind of defect though and I have not heard of any problems like this so far, so unfortunately, it doesn't sound like there will be much we can do to help with this and would request that you go through your store for any options.

Let me know if there are any questions or problems though.

Sincerely,

XXXXXXXX
ASUS Notebook Support U.S.A."

Just want to add that I have always used the carry bag that was included with the laptop and that it is not a scratch but a crack !!!
And yes, the other one is in fact a dent, just waiting to become a crack !!!
Well, I sent a mail to the tech, but it seems like I'm stuck with this poor quality laptop, so be aware !!! specially near the hinges !!
(maybe the fact that they are very tight is to blame? the whole laptop rocks (no musician reference) when I open the lid of it)

Well, please let me know any new facts about this issue !
THX everyone !

damn i've got those dents too, but no cracks...

i hope mine doesn't crack
i noticed it awhile before, but never gave it much thought
now i know what it leads too
geez

edit: i checked for pressure and there's stress only when i open the laptop lid
everytime i lift the lid and it starts to give resistance (my three fingers are placed on the lid between the edge of the hinge and the edge of the screen) i feel it flex

Dude, you need a dell. okok just kidding, but there does appear to be a misplaced pressure point there. If the lid was too loose, the screen would wobble. see if you can take a better pic and send it to him. also see if you could send in the lid for him to look at if he doesn't believe you. also mention the possibility of a pressure point there caused by the connection to the lid and invite him to take apart one for himself to see. you could also tell him to look at this thread for more people that have the same issue, but haven't developed cracks yet.

yeah I'm getting dents near the hinges too, its an inward bend and it looks like it might crack!!!!! and i have only had it since december!! It is about 1cm from the edge on both sides and they look identical with the shape and length of the dents

I only see a dent on the right side of mine... but I've noticed it for quite a while. I've had my M6Ne since September, and I've opened/closed the lid countless times... in fact, I do so at LEAST 20 times a day. It's just a habit
