First notebook, first Apple! - Page 2

If you have the money definitely get the better video card and bigger drive.

And NEVER buy a gig of RAM from Apple. Getting 512 from them is okay because the price is pretty competitive, but a gig or more from Apple is outrageous. Buy your memory from places like NewEgg.

deliberate efforts to derail old or new threads will not be tolerated. please keep such efforts out of the forums. if u have something to ramble about other than notebook/tech related issues, keep it in the off-topic section.

Just a note on charging the battery during initial set up - you can use the PowerBook while you are doing that first charge. The important point in calibrating the battery is to fully charge it, then let it run down to the shut off point. How long it takes to charge in the first place doesn't affect the calibration.

Note - you can also play with it plugged in to the AC adapter with the battery out. Insert the battery when you are through playing with your new computer and let it charge, then use it on battery power until it runs out.

But I don't know/doubt which extra's I should get.

The one thing I would do for sure is getting 1GB of ram on 1 stick.

But should I get the 128MB videocard?
The bigger hard disk?

I added the 128MB Video card to my powerbook, but I didn't get the bigger hdd, because I have an external hdd. A small portable 20GB one.

All PB's come with 512MB default, but indeed, Apple's prices are outrageous along with Dell.

all "big boy" companies do this. they figure if you are a power user who needs all that ram, you should be able to afford the ram.

i am in the same boat as you, got my lappy orinally with 1 stick of pc2700 512mb (kingston), and then got another one on newegg (giel)

Architosh is a great place to find CAD program tips and reviews for Mac users...

Sorry to not respond to any of the posts, but I just wanted to congratulate WarriorJoe! My friend has a Powerbook as well, and I have to agree with you: the iBook has absolutely nothing when compared against the beauty of the PB! The Titanium job has got to be one of the sexiest, sleakest cases in the business... plus, the screen was amazing.

Also, can't you get a free iPod if you order it as a student? =o
