Anymore Future upgrades for XPS GEN1

post #1 of 21
Thread Starter
I was wondering if anyone thinks there will be anymore future upgrades available for XPS gen 1 system. Do you think there will 6800go/x800go agp made available?? or is this the end of the road for XPS gen 1 owners? I'd like to have everyone input.

I would be pretty certain there's no more to come.....see no reason for Dell to "put down work" on a model that's out. That could steal customers from their new products....

I agree with phuffin, I dont think Dell will make anymore upgrades for a model they discontinued.

Darn, I was hoping for a BFGc 10000 upgrade to my MR9700
post #5 of 21
They even said when it came out that there would be only one upgraded card made for it, which turned out to be the MR 9800.

End of the road. Best we can hope for is a dramatic price drop on the EE CPU's. It's also possible that the system will support 4GB RAM sometime in the future, but even if that were available today, it would just slow you down.

this is the dead end!

No and no and no again..

For those of you with Sub Standard parts it would be a wise investment to upgrade whats needed before jumping to a new system.
IE MR9700 64MB -> MR9800 256MB
Pentium4 2.8GHZ -> Pentium4 3.4Ghz
256MB -> 1024MB
4200RPM -> 7200RPM
but upgrades like that would run you around the price of a base line 9300 so its a trade off.

i was looking up seagate info...is the 100gb we are all waiting for 5400rpm or 7200?
post #12 of 21
7200
post #13 of 21
just read in anandtech forums its due out end of april....hopefully.

in may, fujitsu should have a 120gb..but 4800rpm. with that density, shouldnt it be faster then a 7200rpm 60gb?
post #14 of 21
No. Areal density does help speed but it is not enough to set off such a large difference in rotational speed.

savin up money time. my 60 only has 15 empty. need more badly.
post #16 of 21
Bah, I just got a 300 GB 7200 RPM 16 MB Cache external.

I wonder if other companies will make parts for Dell computers, like 3rd party vendors for a mobile radeon x800xt that'll fit in our XPS 1st gen. I doubt it though.
post #17 of 21
I don't think that will happen but it would be great if someone did.

I'll probably go for the Seagate 100 7200 rpm drive when it's out, depending on price (more to get 40 GB more space without dropping speed than anything else). Also toying with the idea of going to 2 GB ram, but not all that seriously at the mo'.

No Way Jose

An upgrade would depend upon nVidia and ATI et al. creating a newer AGP GPU chipset. With everyone going to PCI Express I seriously doubt there is enough business for those manufacturers to create some upgrade for a technology they pushed out the door, namely PCI Express.
