The middle cluster of wires shown above (above F3) are the set I've tapped to make the flicker go away. Mainly the problem is gone now, and I kind of wonder if the problem was either a loose contact. The problem has not come back since I've taken the black panel off. I might try putting it back to see if the problem returns.

How often do you open and close your notebook ? I ask because I did so not more then 5-10 times since the 15 months I´m using it. Maybe this flickering arises with lots of openings/closings of the notebook cover... ???
I open/close mine 2 to 3 times a day, almost every day of the week, for almost every day since I received mine early last year. The flicker problem came about half-way between now and when I got it. I suspect it might be related to the frequent opening and closing, but my Toshiba laptop before it never flickered once, and I had it for longer than I've had this one. It shouldn't flicker, that's a design defect if you ask me.

Okay, it indeed looks a loose contact, caused by opening/closing very often which is caused by a low quality connector, imho.

Of course this should never ever happen. Clevo is saving money again.... Well, these problems appear if saving some cents for a unit is saving thousands or more cause it affects lots of units... but most annoying seems to be you are told this is "normal".... Fine to have your photo and know what we can do now....

We are having the same problem with a 9880. Adjusting the brightness isn't helping. We are going to send it back for repair.

The only time that I have a flickering problem is when I try to move the mouse to turn the screen back on after it auto blacks the screen... but this only happens sometimes...

5680 screen flicker

I've had my 5680 since 2004. It's had intermittent flickering for about 6 months now. I think it's definitely a loose connection.

I popped it open, had a general idea of where the display connections were and then just kept poking those cables. I couldn't see any obviously loose connections so I just put it back together. Screen worked fine for a few months.

Anyhow, the flicker's been back since last night. I turned the brightness settings all the way down, which usually works. It worked until this morning. Then I turned it all the way up, and no flicker.

This is something where I feel a knowledge of circuitry would really come in handy. I would love to see a pic of the 5680's backlight cable. I'm not sure if it's in the assembly manual. I don't think I'll open it up anytime soon until the flickering gets much more frequent.

I'm a goof when I open my 5680. I misplace about 2 screws every time that thing is opened. A few more times and I'm going to have to buy a bag of screws. sigh.

Just to add more confusion to the thread, I consistently get flicker when playing games at less than native resolution on my 8890's (1280 x 1024).
It is totally repeatable.
If the game plays at anything but 1280 x 1024, I get a flickering backlight.
Play at 1280 x 1024 and backlight on any brightness setting is rock solid (even after 3 years of near 24x7 operation).

Could games be affecting your backlight?
