Cooling - Page 2

actually all he said was keep your old parts incase u need to return your pc to Aw. thats not a secret manuever thats common sense. you seem biased to suggest other wise. infact others have stated the same thing no one remembers him posting any other secret tricks to get away with fraud other then saving your old parts. fact is the mods was good info and like others said we should be able to decide on our own if we want the info or not.

Uh, he said to keep your old parts to reinsert them prior to returning the laptop so that AW would not realize you had done the mod.

I suggest you PM Aurora; who can give you more details if you want.

As to mods, I have no objection to threads describing mods. In fact, it might be a good suggestion to the forum moderators to set up a new category in here for AW mods. That way they could keep them in one place, and make sure everyone knows which ones can affect your warranty.

Alienware Mods

Alienware Mods Forum is the best suggestion I have heard all month.

What is the best program to check temperatures and when should I get worried?
I suggest Mobmeter to check temperatures, just run a Google search for it. I get worried at 70 or so, when the CPU starts to clock itself down.

i may apply the as5 or shinetsu thermal pads once i'm outta warranty but under full load my 7700 only gets warm not hot. when i first got it it ran around 64 at tops, but for some reason the hottest i see the processor is 58 now with it normally around 49 idle. shrug. i have taken a look at the internal parts, swapping drives is cake, swapping the gpu or any of the pieces is actually about as easy as my desktop. so far, extremely pleased with the results. plus the computer doubles as a hand warmer.

mine runs about 58°C idle and when I crank up battlefield or something else instensive it goes up to 70-72°C. Is there anything that will monitor and display the GPU temp that anybody knows of?

Mobmeter You can download it here:http://www.geocities.co.jp/SiliconVa...310/mm0310.zip

Guys and Girls, we know you're out there girls. Dont forget to keep your PC "room temperature" in mind too....It's a basic thing but we all forget sometimes!

It can get rather hot down under - thats for the newer Aussie customers

mobmeter only does the CPU, or so that's all I can figure out on it.

It's always 70°F in my house.

Yes I will have to agree about that, If your House/Apt temperature is set at a high temperature, usually (its not always the case) your system will start reflecting higher temps....

Unfortunatly I've been having that problem with my PC (2.4ghz AMD, 2gigs ddr2, Ati X850 PE 256 PCI-e, 3 x 400 gig HD's....) I have to turn up my cpu fan to keep it cooler so then I can compensate for the higher temperatures...Mostly it only goes up a couple of degrees, nothing to really freak out about...But Its something that I don't take kindly to.
