As the topic suggests, I am currently in the market for a DTR notebook not to go over (before tax anyway) 2 grand. I will be using this laptop as a gaming/video editing and general usage machine.
I recently came across 2 decent deals and wanted to know what you guys would go with (or if you are aware of a better deal, thats cool too
):
Dell XPS Gen 1 $1999.99
3.4 GHz P4 EE
1 GB Dual Channel DDR 400
60 GB 4200 HD
15.4" UXGA Screen
256 MB Radeon Mobility 9800
DVD/CDRW
XPS Bag (A nice little throw in, I need a bag anyway)
Dell XPS Gen 2 Same price
2.0 GHz Sonoma
512 MB Dual Channel DDR 533
60 GB 4200 HD
17" UXGA Screen
256 MB Geforce Go 6800 Ultra
DVD/CDRW
Which would you go with and why? All of the benchmarks for the XPS 2 have the 2.13 GHz Sonoma and 1GB of Ram. I'm wondering how that will effect the benchies. Would it STILL be faster than the XPS even with 1/2 the ram AND a slower processor? Thanks much for the input.
Also, weight and battery life really don't matter too much. I will be bringing it to the occasional lan party and to work occasionally but it only has to last like. . .an hour or so on battery power. As long as its under 15 lbs with power adapter--I can handle it.
