Predict When XPS 2's Will Start Getting Built - Page 3

Yeah, I was a little miffed about seeing some people that ordered around the same time that I did see there's start to go into production so I called Dell.

I got a nice enough Indian fellow on the line and explained that I have heard that others are going into production. He said mine was still in pre-production due to backordered parts but he said he would put a priority on my order (basically BS but you never know) and that he would change my shipping from ground to next day (not necessary since I live in Texas and if it ships from the austin plant I'll get it next day regardless of the shipping method).

Here's hoping my order goes into production soon!

I called and checked everywhere again just a few minutes ago.

Order Status from Phone: Pre-production
Order Status from the my account page: Pre-production
Order Status on web page: In-production; Kitting ( https://support.dell.com/support/ord...236&l=en&s=eep )
Dell Rep order status: In-production

EDIT: This is really getting annoying. I have no idea what the real order status is. My rep said it was in production but the phone does not. 2 for production and 2 for pre-production.

Guys, guess what... Until yesterday the "build time" for XPS2 for a newly configured system was 20 days. This morning, again, I tried a mock build, and checked the build time. It says 19 days.

Anybody has any ideas what is going on?

I have an idea! It's a day later now. 20-1=19.

That's not what I had meant. The build time is supposed to be fixed, right? If something takes 20 days to build today, should take 20 days to build if I start building that tomorrow, assuming that parts etc. are available.

This is what I did: yesterday I tried to configure a system -- just to check what the ship date would be if I had placed the order yesterday. I clicked on the prelimiinary ship date link and found the the impact due to "build time" is 20 days.

I thought that would be the same if I ordered a machine today. But now the impact due to build time is 19 days.

AFAIK It only takes a couple of hours (or less than that) to build. Assuming they have all of the parts ready...

It's puzzling... XPS2 build time was 31 days when I purchased on March 9th

It seems the build time keeps decreasing yet have any XPS2's really hit production?

Not mine... It has been "in pre-production" since the dinosaurs became extinct.

On the Canadian Dell site the 60Gig x 7200 RPM is no longer an option. Also, there is no estmated delivery date given when you build a machine.

I am glad I had ordered early. The hard disk should not be a bottleneck. ... I am not in Canada though... but who knows when they run out of options in US?

Im thinking they will be starting on monday being built.. doubtful they'd start today or tomorrow and leave it hanging over a weekend (assuming they dont work weekends *which I dont believe they do??*).

My estimated shipping date is april 7th , anyone elses that or earlier??
Mine is April 8.

I had ordered one on Feb 28; the ship date was 12 April. Then I cancelled that because I wanted 1GB ram. The ship date for the new order is April 08.

Some things you can't explain!

Well it turns out my American CSR is pretty slow in the head. I sent her a friggin' copy of a shopping cart to show her exactly what I needed since she screwed up my order initially and what does she do? She emails me back saying she sees no difference even though I highlighted to her my email that the system she configured does not have 1 GB of ram, how hard is that to understand? I bet an Indian CSR would've even understood what I wanted.

BTW this new order that I placed yesterday is supposedly in production according to my new brilliant American CSR but right now I have a hard time believing anything she says. Not that it matters, I'm cancelling that order anyhow.

im still thinking first week of april, or very last days of march....
thats just me

makes me feel good
Yeah...I ordered 3/1 and I haven't moved out of pre-production, so I'm betting the April 11th ship date is pretty acurate at this point....
Well, you guys have had yours ordered for close to two weeeks. I've had mine ordered for about a week and we have roughly the same ship dates. Interesting, no?
most XPS2's seem estimated to ship on April 8th or 11th... I wonder how many will ship the first day?

I have a Government account with Dell, today I had my account rep check to see what the problem is. Well it's not the video card as we had all speculated on, it is new the Intel chips that are the problem, he could not tell me if there was a technical problem or if they are just backordered. Can any one verify this through other channels? LeeU

http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/IXPS2A01.EXE

Since the flashBIOS for the IXPS2 has been uploaded to Dell's ftp server, they ought to be shipping fairly soon.

Finally got the order straightened out and ended up with a better system than I had on order before at a slight discount. This is the quote she sent me before finalizing:

BTW she said that XPS Gen 2's are now in production. In fact, the order she messed up on yesterday had already gone into production.
