Wow, I can confirm this.
My testing procedure: Turned off the laptop. Unplugged it. Removed battery. (This is what it takes to get the computer to forget the switch is on).
Turned it on. No light. Ran Ubuntu installer and it tells me i have wifi but it's deactivated by a kill switch.
So I boot up into DOS with my Win98 install CD. Run bios.bat. It updates without a hitch. And when the computer reboots - presto! - The light goes on automatically. I boot up into linux (without acerhk) and I can surf. How fantastic is that! Thanks adolf for the heads up.
