Just got my 9300!

Well it came today, and so far im loving it. I went with the WXGA+ screen as opposed to everyone else here (it seems...) and am enjoying it. As far as i can so far tell there doesnt appear to be a dead pixel I dont know what light radiation and all that is, so i cant comment there.

It was kinda funny, this is my first notebook and when i first turned it on i couldnt get over how dim the screen was. I thought that maybe i had really made a mistake. Then i realized that not having the AC plug in makes it default to a setting of 3 for brightness as opposed to 8. MUCH brighter with the AC adapter in (maybe even too bright - im not sure yet).

Anyway, i am liking it alot atm, but one kinda quirm i have - sometimes the notebook makes a high pitched sound coming from the left side (CPU fan?). When i tell it to do something this will go away, however comes back once it is done doing what i tolled it to do. Rather annoying really (its not doing it now) anyone know what im talking about?

O well, loving it so far. Dell is no longer sending the notebook out with coolbits and all on btw - that is deff missing currently from my video options. Luckily that isnt hard to change. Driver version is 66.71

Love it so far, if someone could tell me how to fix the throtteling pitch sound it would be a deffinete keeper.

Congrats! Do you have a CD in the drive? If so, that high pitched whine is your drive spinning up.

No, no cd in the drive...i dont know, when a web page is opening up, or when im going through system files, its just a high pitched sound on the left side (not the HDD though, im almost certain of that). Kinda like a "beep boop beep boop" that old movies always have computers doing...i dont know, could it be the CPU dynamically switching speeds? Seems to do that alot...

Anyway, just installed coolbits and did auto detect frequency's - 369/786. Yeah, im deff liking that.

I think if it's plugged into the mains your laptop automatically runs at top speed, no matter what other power-saving settings you've selected.

Not true. It can be setup to run in multiple ways. By default Dell would probably set up with laptop configuration in which case, even plugged in it may only run at 1/2 speed or less.

well, heres a interesting little find - the sound goes away when the CPU is stressed. When SuperPI is calculating it doesnt make the sound at all.

Aw well. I do hope to figure that out.

SuperPI 1m = 41 sec
SuperPI 2m - 1m 43 sec

Some 3dmark05 coming soon

OK, sorry to keep doing this but now i have another question. When im d/l files and stuff my HDD makes a "CLICK.....click.click.CLICK......click.click..." sound. Is this normal? Its not the standard access sound (if you know what i mean)

You're not the first person to report a clicking sound with the HD. I think I saw sonic or someone mention an HD acoustic program that helps.

so talk a little bit more about the screen please! and i cant wait to see benchmarks!
thanks

Screen is very nice. Its bright and vivid.

The sound is coming from the CPU area, top left. I am certain of this. The fan is apparently hitting something. I DO NOT understand why it only does it sometimes, and why performing a action makes it suddenly stop hapening. Overall this is turning into something more and more annoying. Its something so mall to...crazy that.

2749 default 3dmark05 score. Not sure why others are getting ~3200 :/

You know its funny. The entire time its running i dont here the buzzing. As soon as its over and i turn on mozilla BAM it starts. Kinda strange it only happens while browsing.

Anyway i guess the lower score could be due to speedstep - could that effect it?

I think i know what you are talking about.

I had a similar problem with my gateway laptop (a few yrs back, in highschool).

The low constant screeching type of sound was quite annoying and i didn't really pursue it with tech support, but rather got used to it. Since then, i've found out how S*** a company gateway is (evident by them leaving the Australian scene altogether) and have assumed it to be just another gateway flaw.

I do its an isolated incidence with the 9300 - others dont seem to have commented on this? Or mayb this is normal for laptops?

Could it be a leaky capacitor on your DVD drive? They often sound like a gurgly high pitched squeal.

3649 in 05 at 360/740. Yes this was plugged in. Id say thats rather impressive for a laptop myself.

those clocks are more then solid - no artifacts or anything. My notebook does get warm at these settings though, its deffinently heating up my room right now.

Plugged in = power plugged in.

Valve HL2 Stress Test 1440-900 with everything at high with shaders at reflect all and anti-aliasing at 4x and anisotropic filtering at 8x (In other words litterally maxxed)

88.43 fps

yeah, damn. This notebook is awsome.
