Before we start, this is a graduation present so price is unlimited

Now ive been looking at that XPS Gen 2...its so perfect, or so it seems...but with the Turion solution coming around the corner (and after seeing the benchmarks) the XPS Gen 2 doesnt seem so hott.. i mean does anyone make lappys configured like this...

-Sonoma /w 2.13 Dothan OR Turion 3200 Athlon 64
-2 gig of ram
-Geforce 6800 Ultra Go
-100 gig (7200 rpm) hd
-15in or greater screen
-decent battery life (25.-3 hours +)
-smallish? (no DTR size here)

I am strongly Against any normal P4 or AMD in a notebook because they are monsterously warm and use lots of power

Turion isnt out yet, and there are no other Sonomas with the 6800 atm.

Chances are, by the time you will be buying (or recieving, lucky you!) this laptop, there will be several laptops that are at least close to your desired specifications. Between now and then, it would be helpful to look around the forums at different machines, and try to figure out details regarding exactly what specs you want, what's important to you, etc. so that when you find the "perfect laptop", you'll know it when you see it.

I am pretty sure that I could mail you my dads old gateway. It's a pentium3 700mhz, 256meg pc100 ram, with a suprisingly nice 1280x1024 screen. It is perfect for you.
Why do I say this? because my nice Sager laptop has been my demise at school. It is too good for gaming and i cant resist. I have missed deadlines and not studied for tests. I am not failing, but only because I want to live when I go back home. Seriously, you better have VERY good studying habits if you get specs like those you want.

But i would reccommend something with good battery life. But nothing with those specs will be a joy to carry around campus.
