Never had the experience of traveling with a notebook. Will it be safe to send them through an x-ray machine? what's your experiences?
If it's not safe, in the airport you will see signs that notebooks are not allowed.

Always ran through X-Ray machine without any issue. You might want to try Not To and see how TSA agent react....

I do not think its an option. Every laptop has to take out of its bag/case and scan through for explosive detection. On occasion, TSA agency will pull you aside after scaning and power up your laptop onsite.

Thats a stickler, do you avoid xray though?

Or do they still scan it with xray for bomb gear?

I have sent all of my rigs through the airport x-ray machines without any issues.

They will not hand check it. It has to go through the xray all by itself out of the bag.
I've been traveling for business for 8 years and never had any problems with the xrays. Had Toshiba, Acer, 3 different Dell's, Alienware and never a problem.

Bottom line... Don't worry about it

In what country?

I've been running my notebooks through the xray for years. I've done it severaly times in the last few months. I don't know about my own fertility, but the notebook is just fine. Many people do it twice a week. If you fly with it, you will be required to pass it through the xray machine.

X-rays are not harmful to computers in any way. The fact that people seem to think it is an issue is based on a different problem. In the old days, the conveyor belts that pulled the stuff through the X-ray machine sometimes were a bit magnetic or built static, and that could obviously hurt. But I have sent notebooks through X-rays at least 100 times over the last 20 years, with absolutely no problems.

They had notebooks twenty years ago?
Depends on what you class as a laptop really. A little over 20 years if you use a very vague definition or a little under 20 years for what most people would call a laptop...

Well... they werent really notebooks then. They were stone-tablets-and-chisels. But the same idea, hehe. Actually, Im surprised that they even allowed those tihngs on a plane- werent they lead acid batteries or something?
