ordered a 9300 but check this dell **** up

decided on a 9300 because i couldn't justify 650 bucks for games. By the time the 9300 gets too slow I'll buy an xbox 2 or something - haha. Anyway the dell guy was cool but the crazy thing is I had 1500 dollar dell credit line. So I figure - ok I'll buy the 1600 dollar version of the 9300 i configured and put 100 bucks on my card. NOPE. ****ing Dell wont let you split it. If you have 1000 dollars of dell credit and you want a 2000 dollar system you cant pay cash/credit for half and put 1000 on your credit line. You have to buy a system less than 1000 bucks.

So the guy tells me to dump the 6800 graphics option to get the computer below 1500, then call dell's parts department, buy the graphics card which they'll sell it to me for 200 bucks (same price as the option) and I can install it myself. Thats the only way to split the payment.

nice computer, good sales guy, but i dont even have the computer yet and i already think dell is run by bean counting ****nutz. If they weren't having a sale right now I would not have bought this computer.

i hope this works as smoothly as the guy says. The crazy part is I'll have it paid off in a coule weeks, and they're jerking me around on using the credit they already gave me.

wow

So, did you order the go6800? What's the part number? That's actually a pretty cool deal if it's only $200. He didn't give you the part number and cost for the go6800 ultra by any chance, eh?

Are you absolutely you can do this? Did you have the sales rep write that in your order? I would make sure that you can do this because I would not think that it would be this cheap or let along that they will sell you one because its in high demand right now. Call and make sure.

dude swore up and down they would do this. I'm calling tomorow. Parts dept is closed now so if he's bogus im cancelling my order and he'll be hearing from me. All the calls are recorded so i doubt he would straight lie to me but i'll tell you soon. He assured me it was a simple matter of plugging it in and loading the driver. i was skeptical but i didnt want to miss the sale and i need the computer soon. So...we'll see.

So, they didn't send you an order confirmation yet? You should be able to check your order status online, and the go6800 part should show as a separate order.

When I ordered online, it asked me to list the amount of credit cards I wanted to split the amount over. It had (4) listed columns. I only did the first but I was tempted to use the 2nd.....lol.

and you should have been able to get your 9300 for less than $1500, you sure you got such a good deal? Did you use the $750 off coupon? Perhaps its time ti re-order and avoid the entire mess.
You can't say he should be able to get it less than 1500 without seeing his specs. Yes, it is possible but possibly not with this specs.

Possible oversight here m8 - make sure that you don't invalidate your warranty. Lots of companies (especially Dell) like to do the upgrades themselves and even installing a simple RAM upgrade can negate your warranty.

Make sure you cover yourself (as advised further up) - preferrably in writing. Also get the representatives full name, extension and date of conversation.

Other than that though, kudos to the guy - Sounds like he's trying his best to help you

Now that's a cool sales rep. Never heard of one telling you a loophole while on the job. So what's the situation on the separate card order?
Unless he had some other sort of crazy requirements regarding the system, he should have no problem getting his requested vid card in a nicely equipped 9300 for under $1500. how bout that?
$750 off only applies to $1999+ inspirons. (1500<1999!!!!!)
But once you apply the 750 off it could be $1250 (1250<1500!!!!!).

And if you want extended warranty it is hard to fit under 1500. But you can always add that in the first month/year you have it. (Month = complete coverage, year = extend warranty)

Now, just hope you don't replace the video card with the new one, have an issue and send it back to Dell only to get it back with another card similar to the one "originally" configured with the system. Also, how does swapping the video card affect the warranty? I guess you can always swap the old card back if you need to send it in for service, replacement. Will Dell update the service tag to reflect the updated card?
