Check this out. I thought about what the salesmen said and my gut told me something was fishy so i called back and cancelled the deal. There were just too many things to go wrong. He guranteed me over and over i could call the parts department and get the part for 200 bucks; but what if the left hand didnt coordinate with the right? Then I'd be screwed.

So just to check it out I called back today and asked another salesmen if I could do the same after he repeatedly tried to sell me the computer with a shitty graphics card.
He also told me that the price of the computer was going up because the deal was ending. I told him that was bullshit computer prices always go down not up and Dell only changed deals to make the computer the same price. So he tells me yeah just order the card seperately. I pressed him. I want a gurantee that it will be the same price as an upgrade - 200 bucks. So he calls the parts dept. and then a few minutes later says "oh yeah you can do it" I said HOW MUCH. He says oh only 650 bucks. I said "are kidding me? thats a terrible deal. Why the hell would I do that?! ...so your telling me the other salesmen was full of shit and lied to me. He says ....um yeah.

You better watch these assholes. If you dont know your shit they will F*** you in a heartbeat.

Well, I dont want to sound like an a**hole, but if the cost to add a videocard is N dollars, then that price would reflect N dollars + the cost of the already configured card. So yes you can get the 6800 for 200 bux in a system, but that is dell's cost plus markup "over" the price of the configured system with lower-end graphics card. This is why I think Dell's configuration process is very sneaky. They very often do the "you can upgrade to the large popcorn for only ten cents more" because they already marked the damn price of the small popcorn up by 500%!!!! The problem is that they don't give you an option of bringing your own popcorn. I think they are very sneaky about their discounts also. I am supposed to get an employee discount of 12%, but that 12% is only valid in their EPP store, which is not the same as the Home or Small Business store, and they never run discounts in the EPP. So in effect my 12% discount is worthless, since there is always a 20% - 30% coupon available in a different store! What BS. HP allows me to apply my EPP discount to any available offer in any available department. Bottom line: Dell is just SNEAKY!

Glad you got it all figured out before they screwed you though.

I understand what your saying; however the first salesmen assured me several times that I could buy *seperately* the 6800 video card for 200 bucks AFTER I ordered the lappy, so effectively installing it on my own for the same price as having it come with the laptop. This sounded ridiculous to me too, so I asked him to clarify. And again, he told me the same thing. It sounded wierd so I cancelled 30 minutes later. Good thing I did becuase he was full of shit and only cared about the commission. The second guy actually did not know the difference between the two monitors (xga and uxga) and asked ME to explain it to HIM. Some of these clowns dont even understand basic computer terminology and there selling 2000 dollar computers. Then he wanted to argue with me that there was only the samsung screen - I told him he was wrong and I knew this for a fact. Holy crap; this is why I always read up before I make a big purchase. shit.
