FU**!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this lappy from BestBuy on 2/19 and so far it's been great. I just looked at the hinges and the right one is cracked! I thought they fixed the damn problem?. I don't have a pic of it but it looks just like the pics that everyone else has posted. I have been so careful with it too. I am just sick about this. I didn't buy the BestBuy extended warranty so now I have to send it in to Gateway. I know I probably can't but does anyone know if I can still purchase the BB warranty?

Don't Gateway notebooks come with a standard 1 year warranty? If so all you have to do is send it in and it will get fixed for free. It is a well documented problem. The BB warranty is separate from the manufacturers warranty.

Just curious, but is your screen loose? Can you pull it in and out a bit on either side when grabbing it from the top corners?

My 7422 has developed a crack as well.

Last I looked, mine hasn't cracked yet. But I haven't used mine since Monday, have had it in the case while waiting for my RMA box.

Yeah it does have a 1 year Gateway warranty. I contacted Gateway last night, Idiot kept asking me my order number so he could order me replacement hinges, had to tell him 3 times that I don't have an order number because I bought it at BB. So then he told me I have to contact BB and ask them the order number I'm gonna call BB when they open to see if I can still purchase the extended warranty.

No my screen is not loose, it doesnt move.

EDIT: Has anyone noticed that as of this morning the 7422GX is no longer on Bestbuys website?

I would call back, all they need is the serial number and your personal info to register the notebook. I think you called the wrong support hotline. You must call the nuber on the bottom of the laptop.

I did. Also my laptop is registered, and I did give them the serial number when I contacted them.

SOB! I thought this problem had been taken care of. I haven't noticed any cracking on mine yet (knock on wood) I know I've had mine for a little longer than Robert too.

I think they're tightening these hinges too tight. When I first got my 7405 it felt kinda stiff opening and closing, now after it's cracked it feels alittle looser.

If it's sent in will they let you take your hard drive out or they won't repair it without it?

I called BestBuy and you have to buy the warranty within 14 days, so that's out.

I can't believe that after all this time they are still having this problem. I know it's a minor thing, but I didn't spend $1400 to have it crack after 3 weeks. I will never buy a Gateway again. Yes I know it is Arimas fault but Gateway knows of the problem and should have stopped selling them. Also thier customer support is just useless.

well don't "take the thunder" from them and maybe it won't happen

that stinks...im sure mine will develop one as well. I bought it in Jan...but I purchased the BB warranty. I've heard all laptops seem to have problems and BB covers free batery replacements so I thought it would be worth it. I'm very glad I did.

I called Gateway again and this time had a much better result. I think the phone system was screwed up earlier and forwarded me to the wrong department. This time I got through right away .The lady answered "Emach.......Gateway Technical Support" lol. She was very nice and the minute I said cracked hinge she gave me an RMA. They're sending me a box to return it in so hopefully I get that soon. She said it will take about 3-5 days to get it back once I ship it. I'll give an update when I get it back. God I hope it doesnt happen again after it's fixed.

Great to hear.

One thing, you seem to be the kind of guy who takes excellent care of your laptop thus the reason you are complaining about the cracks. When you get your lappy back, take a real good look at the lid. When I got my 6811 back, there was some minor handling scratches on it, almost like they had it upside down on a workbench. Just curious if this is how they treat all laptops.

Good to hear indeed,

Sooner or later I will send it in to have the crack fixed, even though it's barely noticable (at least at this point). It's good to see that a company taking responsibility for its mistakes.

I am still under the extended 90 day warranty from my second rma. Just waiting for the hinge to crack again so I can get that and the inverter replaced. I am also getting a hard drive lockup at times, especially after a long cold startup. Defective drive possibly. Anyone have this problem? I get registry load errors and program crash unexpectedly at times.

Compman, I ain't gonna solder or crimp anything until they deny me service from the warranty running out.
