There it is. Not as hard core as I sometimes dig in, but it's a quick review covering many of the details:

Thanks Adam, I've been looking forward to that one for a while. The screen does seem to be a huge letdown though the battery life is closer to what I was expecting. I agree about the VGA port and audio ports, though the ports generally seem to be better than other Clevo machines (except the 8890 of course )

You didn't mention about why they only used DDR333 and what effect it had (in comparison to 533). Can you speculate? And is there any chance we will see an option to get a better LCD? I don't think I could handle that viewing angle (plus the quality straight on looked less than average).

The Clevo M400A manual says there are a model B with DDRII 533 memory...

wow...do my eyes deceive me? A sager rebate? Whoa! What's up with that? I've never seen a Sager rebate before.

I don't really have a confirmed reason for the RAM other than it fit with what was being focused on which was battery life while still having good perfromance and a low price.

Playing around with it you realize it has some good power for such a mobile unit, but you also realize it's in a completely different class than the DTRs. When you try multi-tasking programs you can tell vs the 9860 which is like a tank running anything and everything you throw at it lol.

I was over all more impressed with the 4880 than I had expected, but let down by the screen even more than I expected. I knew it's specs, but seeing it after looking at the 17" on the 9860 it's clearly the breaking point for some people considering it.

The weight I'm guessing would probably make it into the 6lb range if they had went with a smaller battery and optimized the panels and hardware, but what this would have resulted in is a less solid build and less battery life. I think it would be a fair trade off to many. The battery is a 6600mah 12-cell, most units of this type you will see no larger than a 9 cell which is why it gets really good battery life even with the 2GHZ CPU.

After the nice screens that've been on the previous Sager models, it's a surprise to see Clevo choose such a stinker of a screen Looking at pics in the review thread remind me of my 4 yr old Sony VAIO (and that's not a good thing).

Yes. The user manual says:

"Table 1 - 1 - Model Differences

Feature................Model A....|....Model B.............|...Model C.|....Model D
Video Adapter....ATI X700 PCI Express Video Card...|..Intel GMA 900 On-Board
Power Adapter..................90W..........................|...........65W
RAM (Memory) .........DDR ......|..DDRII (DDR2) ......|....DDR....|..DDRII(DDR2)"

So there are four models.

Interesting, So Where's the B Model. I couldn't find any mention of it on their website.

is there such thing as a x700 pro? if so, what's the difference?
I was looking at the chassis and LCD connection. I noticed this one comes with three hinges, vs. the traditional two; however, it still seems kind of flimsy. You mentioned increased build quality. Is there any improvements on this notebook do not bust out of the plastic like on other models?
When is this boy gonna be released??
....

also interested in teh build quliaty question. would the build quality be tough enough to drag around campus all day, every day?
Better question, could you drop it repeatly and still have a decent chance of booting up?
@ Adam

Thanks a lot for the detailled review.

Anyhow I've got a question concerning the Doom3 benchmark:

What were the Game settings (High Quality and XGA Screen Resolution?) ??
Anyone getting this? So far, the forums seem to be nonresponsive to the release of the 4880... is anyone actually interested in it?
Yeah i am, im just saving my money up to get one. Hopefully Ill have enough by the end of April. The only other thing im looking at is to see if the sager is gonna be better then the Twinhead N15RB. The only other reason being, thats its case is really strong, and the gpu is alot better.
I decided to order one on Friday.
What specs did you decide to go with? Also where did you orders yours from?
