the price with this rebate makes this incredibly tempting, but the screen ahh..... if it were wuxga same config/price, i would order it in a second. also curious about the memory, but for this price i wouldnt have a problem with this system. this is what i have been waiting for but with the wrong screen, most likely waiting till next semester rolls around.

Has anybody tried linux on the 4880? I might buy one this summer.

I've got a question about the screen. The viewing angle doesn't bug me, as the unit will be for my wife and in her work, and she works with private info, so no viewing angle is actually a plus. As long as the screen looks good straight on???

My question is about the wide screen. How do games in normal 4:3 mode look? Does the screen black the sides, or stretch? Is it configurable to do either?

Also since this is my first laptop, I have a few newbie questions. The review mentions that you can access the ram, video, does this mean that a year or two down the road it would be plausible to upgrade the video card?

Found that the benchmark detail was answered previously =D thanks.

Hello

Read a Little about PCI-X Video Cards and you'll find that answers. Access to various components within laptops has been possible for a while now. I didn't mean that you could change components ( Video Card ) as there are many factors involved some of which have been solved since the introduction of PCI-X.

I've just bought a Clevo M400A (Safer 4880; in Italy is sold by an Italian company with the name Elettrodata Nev@da SX- 482).
It's not bad at all, quite fast and solid, maybe too thick for a Centrino notebook, but ...
The speakers suck, I don't like their sound at all.
The keyboard is average, quite comfortable.
The fans and the DVD drive are very noisy (especially when you play games)
I'm not very satisfied manly about two characteristics.
- the battery life (110 minutes with a 4400 MAh, instead of your 6600);
- the quality of the screen with a very low viewing angle and its quality at the resolution of 1024x768; it should be the item showed here under:
LCD brand: Chunghwa
Model #: CLAA150PB01
15" SXGA+
Contrast 350
Response Time 25ms
Brightness 200 cdm2
Viewing angle 45/45, 30/10
http://www.cptt.com.tw/admin/applic...CLAA150PB01.pdf

I can't reach any link with the specific drivers or showing its charactieristics, in order to improve it performances.

Can anybody ( ) help me?
Thank you.

I repeat: it's not bad at al but I think it doesn't worth the money I spent: 1955 Euro / 2482 US$ (shit-bag, shipping, winXP included) to be payed in 18 months with no interests.

The quality isnt good at 1024x768? I think thats to be expected when its native resolution is 1400 x 1050. Try running it at that and you will get a very clear picture compared to what you are seeing now. You would be getting a fuzzy picture like that with running any LCD screen on a non native reslolution be it on a laptop or a desktop. I personally play most of my games in 1024x768 and I have no problems at all with it.

do we have a starting weight on this laptop?

Just ordered a 4800v from PCT, hope it meets my expectations after reading all those stellar reviews.
can anyone compare the screen on the 4880 to another laptop like a dell or something? the review only said it was "average" and itd be cool to see a comparison next to something that i can see in real life since u cant really see a sager till u buy it :/
