New Fujitsu Amilo M4438/M3438 (17" WUXGA/WXGA+ Centrino) - Page 4

Well I've decided to go with M3438G. It has a lower response time than M4438G and wider viewing angles. The main reason why I'm not going to get M4438G is, however, the fact that I'd have to pay so much extra money to order it from abroad (as my country of Finland is won't be selling it... probably) as well as so much extra trouble that it's simply not worth it. And I can always buy an external display later which has WUXGA resolution or better for HDTV, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray.

Currently I'm waiting that the Finnish F-S will release the PM760 and PM770 versions of M3438G because I don't want to buy the PM750 version that is available.

I've played with this lappy a few minutes, and I can say only one thing...
It's absolutely...
A W E S O M E !

I checked model with 2x SEGATE Momentus 7200 RPMs 100 Gbites in RAID 0.
In the same time played (from HDD) SGA 1x01 Rising in HDTV edition on this lappy (res - full 960x528), Terminator 2 in HDTV 1080i resolution (from DVD), opened some spreadsheets and docs in background and... There was still place on desktop! And it was working like a charm...

There aren't any problems with 25 ms reaction time, no smużenie or anything like this...
Only thing I didn't like - keys on keyboard are little bigger then on my home keyboard, but I think then I'll used to.

Karen Notebooks is (actually) only importer of this FS model. So I can't change anything - and what made me especially sad - there isn't any MCE/TV edition announced in near time. There are rumours about MCE premiere in Poland (16 september) but...
Oh, and there isn't also Works Suite (Encarta and many useful aplication) but only Works 7.0... ARGH!
So, do anyone know, will be Express Card TV tuner avalible to buy separately?

But - without complaining about software - I'll buy this lappy in next 7-9 days. Great performance with great price. I think, then it will last me for next 3 years (at least).
Why people can buy it in Poland and Norway but not in Germany....................
anyway,i would like to know the price of 4438 in EURO,and maybe that can help to make the decision if i am going to wait for this Laptop any longer

I saw it today here in Paris. The screen looks nice, the only thing that surprised me is that I was able to try it a little and while I watched a couple of video on both there was a very noticeable "jump" every 30 seconds or so (image was freezing for an instant)... maybe something wrong with the drivers?

What do you guys think?

Anyway the FNAC sells it for 2000euro they can keep it at that price. I am going to Italy in a couple of days we'll see what they have down there!

That jump could originate from the fact that it has the Pentium M processor which keeps altering the speed to reserve the battery...
I have witnessed this jumpiness on my M3438G when watching DivX videos... you need to lock the clock speed of the CPU, for example set it to "Max Performance" with programs like centrino control or SpeedswitchXP...

Cool tip thanks - Today I'll go back and try that if I can.
Alright I am back - I tried to find the settings and even manipulating the "best graphic\best performance" results in the system options of the control panel I couldn't get any more fluis video.

...So I asked a vendor who told mne that the problem depends on the fact that those are High Definition videos and that even those PCs have a hard time dealing with that. He also said that the DVD reproduction of course is fine and shows no problem.

It's a bit annoying don't you think? Maybe he is wrong? Even an ATI RADEON 6800 doesn't quite make it?

*NVIDIA GeForce 6800
OOOps... of course... GeForce

Anyway regarding the video it looks good it's true but not nearly as good as that of the SONY VAIO A417M netx to it.

Anyway The sony displays just a little ATI X600 256MB and that closes the competition.

BTW the AMILO only has a DVI output, I am sure I can use some sort of converter in order to connect it ot my old Trinitron monitor, right?

Also I noticed there is a control for dual display, not sure if it works though... I should check the manual...
The 3438 comes with a converter, which I assume works. I haven't tested it yet.
Ehh, I know I should have been more precise about this subject... those settings you refer only affect the 3D quality, what I meant was that you need to use a program like for example SpeedswitchXP http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/
to set the CPU to max performance, no hassle needed with the GPU (graphics processing unit).

And yes, the converter does work, I have tested it...

I'm getting the M3438G soon (PM750, 1 GB RAM, 2x80Gb S-ATA) and was wondering whether you guys think it'd be a good idea for me to update the memory to 2 GB by taking the two 512MB memories out and putting two Kingston 1GB memories in (of course I wouldn't do this myself). It would cost me around 300 dollars (since I live in Finland).

Some people say that 1GB is more than enough while others have reported that for example updating the memory from 1GB to 1.5GB makes a lot of difference in games like Battlefield 2.
If you intend to play that specific game intensively, then yes, get the 2GB of RAM, but otherwise, I doubt you'd need it.
Some other games that gladly take 1GB+ memory are EQ2 and boiling point for example, or so I have heard... and of course I'd think that the new state of the art games that are supposed to come out this winter (or next spring) would like extra too...
However, as the GeForce Go 6800 in this comp is just the normal version and not Ultra, I would guess that the GPU will be more of a limiting factor for the great performance in new titles...

Of course, then there is the new Windows Vista in the horizon as well, but I don't know about its memory requirements (except that they recommend at least 128 MB memory for the GPU if you run it... ).

You were going to make this comp last for a 4 years or so? If that is the case, maybe you should get 2 GB of memory, if you think you can afford it... I'd sure be happy to have 2 gigs on mine.
One other thing. A person informed me that that M3438G model I'm going to get that has 2x512MB memory, the memory runs at 400MHz. But if I get 2x1GB memory it will run at 533MHz (M3438G supports both). So wouldn't 2x1GB at 533MHz (by Kingston) be way better than 2x512MB at 400MHz?

Check out the datesheet of M3438G: here
Well, I don't know whether the difference between 400 and 533 is "way better" but with 300 $, I'd prolly go with the 2 gigs... yeah, I would.
What Forceware version are you using (and where did you get it from)?
Well, if you mean me... I actually still have the same ForceWare that comes with the computer installed, because I don't have a broadband connection at this moment.
So, sorry, can't help you there, ask me again at the end of this month (that's when I should have it).
Actually I meant in general as in I asked the question from anyone who reads this thread. But I'll check back to you, R.

So again, it would help a whole lot if someone would tell me what Forceware version they are using and most importantly is the version you are using safe.

Yay, just placed my order for a 2GHz M3438G. Should get it mid next week.

Went for the M3438G as I do a lot of reading and music production so I'd like bitmaps and text to be legible!

first: why do i nowhere find the m4438? Isnt it released yet?

second: what about the burner, can i burn all kind of dvd and cd with it...because (sry im not a it-pro in technic) as far as i know there is a difference between DVD+-R and DVD+ R!
so im not sure...
