9300 gaming and RAM

Thread Starter
Anyone know how gaming will be on the 9300 with 512 of ram instead of a gig. I'm planning on upgrading but not for a month or two. Just curious how gaming will be with 512 for games like doom3 and band of brothers. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Well, I could barely play EQ2 on my G15 with 512MB DDR333 1.8 Dothan (400FSB) and a 128MB nVidia card. This was at WXGA resolution though, 1440x900. It might be a whole different story at WUXGA, 1920x1200. I personally ordered with a 1.6 Dothan and 512MB of ram. I am looking for ram currently. I figure $250 for a 1GB stick now and another $150 in a couple of months when the price drops. Besides someone might want to buy my 2x256MB sticks, espescially the Sager guys who ordered with 2x256MB.

I just recieved mine. I have the 6800 go and with 512MB memory after formatting and reinstall without all the crap at default speeds and the 1.6GHZ proc I'm scoring 3150 in 3DMark 05.

I personally am dieing to hear, what someone with the 1.6GHz CPU and 512MB of ram, thinks about EQ2. Almost to the point of loaning out my account, almost.

Are you sure about that? A 3150, the 6800 go is supposed to score around 4200, are you sure that there isn't something wrong with your lappy?

Not stock. Those 4000+ scores are on overclocked systems. 3000 is really respectable from a laptop. To put it into light, the same Toshiba G15 that I was playing EQ2 on was scoring 3100 or so on 3dMark03.

I am running the 9300 with the 256 6800 and 512 right now. My main game is WOW and it is very difficult to play at 512. Lots and lots of hard drive activity and choppy play. I just ordered a 1gb stick so we will see what that does.

I played a few minutes of Far Cry last night. 1680x1050, settings at high. 512MB system RAM/6800. Played very smoothly, but I'm not far in the game, so not much is going on.

Where did you get the 1GB stick, what brand and how much?

I found this guy on Ebay, selling 1GB sticks of Samsung. He is local to me and I already contacted him about just picking them up. I figure if I bought a few sticks he might give me a deal. Anyone wanna group buy?

Well, I just double checked it was PC3200, coulda sworn it said 4200 last night.

Considering that the 6800 is an insanely good card, and the 512 RAM is DDR2 533, I'm having a hard time believing that WoW, a not so memory and graphic intensive game (like Doom 3 is) plays poorly. Are you playing it on some resolution like 30,000 x 25,000 ?

lol... yea I wonder too. I play it on my 9100 with 128mb 9700 at max settings and barely gets choppy w/ 512 dual-channel

It depends on the server, but WOW can eaisly lag badly with 512. Lots of images need to be loaded for every piece of armor and such. I played WOW last night on mine with a 1.86 procc and 512ram w/ 6800go and it did lag a little.

I dont understand all these high scores, in 3dmark05 default i get 2697, and overclocked to 260/750 i get 3657. In CS:S i get 89.87 fps at 1440*900 with everything set to high and AA at 4x AF at 8x. Very nice there. Little to no lag in that game. HL2 SP had some lag too with 512 however.

512MB kills me on WoW in my desktop (1024x768 medium settings). I upgraded to 768 in my desktop and it still is somewhat laggy. It's mostly in Ironforge though. 1GB runs smooth as butter.

BTW, I get 2904 with my 9300. 2.0Ghz, 256MB Ram (upgrading it), Go 6800

Further into the game, I did have to turn things down a bit. Oh well. Still very nice.
