Look at this thing:

WHY OH WHY DO THEY DO THIS TO US?!
It looks promising with raid and probably a better screen too.

Yeah, everybody loves Fujitsu LCDs. Any pricing and availability info?

It does look beautiful, and it should be a WUXA screen, and it shouldn't sparkle. On top, the style kicks butt. But I cannot wait until 3Q, I need a lappy now. And who knows if it is really coming out on 3Q. We'll see.
Meanwhile, still gambling with my 9300 (I did consider Fujitsu N6000 series, but the lower res and processer put me off). Last, seen Fujitsu screens in real life, they are very beautiful indeed.

me = not impressed.
But it is an i9300 alternative for many people.

1. Keyboard layout is about as good as Sony's . C'mon put pgup, pgdn, home, and end down where they are supposed to be. As a coder i use them all the time.

2. They dont mention the resolution as 1900x1200. if it is that high why did then not mention it.
"In related news, Fujitsu Siemens also unveiled the Amilo M3438, which offers 1440 x 900 pixel resolution display but otherwise remains identical to the M4438. "
So do then not offer a 1600x1050 or is that their current resolution.

3. Raid is overrated in a notebook. Is a cool geek factor thing. But, ability to have a second hard disk is nice.

4. Is it the Ultra or DDR3 or DDR1?
"Raw power propels the graphics output courtesy of a Nvidia GeForce Go 6800 chip with 256 MB of dedicated video RAM, "

5. How is Fujitsu for next business day support with complete care?

Judging by the "a pixel resolution that's beyond today's best HDTVs " and "despite the display grandeur of the unit, which is, in fact, more than HDTV 1080 compliant" I'd say it is WUXGA.

I didn't see where it said the laptop was coming out in 3Q, just that they'll release some higher density drives for it then. I assume the machine will be available earlier.

Ive actually owned 2 Fujitsus and there Very good with even basic support in NY State anyway. I had a problem with the hardrive so they asked me to go to a Fujitsu Authorized dealer which happens to be a big COmputer store in Manhatten. 3 days later they replaced the drive/case/screen/speakers! apparently the system had problems i wasnt even aware of but they pointed them out and all was well in the land of fujitsu.

Hey, you guys need to get out from the Dell forums a little more
I posted some pics and details in this thread in the Notebook General forum...

I think it's nice. Integrated Raid and TV tuner is pretty sweet. I like the styling better than the 9300 as well. Probably not as cheap as the 9300 though so that would be my main issue with it.

It also has a SPDIF audio out which is nice. It is more Media PC than the 9300 which would be the reason I would get it.

Hmm, with 240GB, that would make it a true DTR for me.

Today at CeBIT, Fujitsu Siemens Computers presented a high-end multimedia notebook featuring an enhanced 17-inch widescreen Crystal View display. The new top-of-the-line AMILO M4438 comes with a high-definition resolution (1920x1200 pixel) screen for strikingly sharp, crisp and detailed images. Herbert Schönebeck, Vice President Consumer Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers, says the first order of business at CeBIT is to recruit distributors for the new notebook, which will be available at the beginning of May.

That's a beauty. Wonder how long it will take for it to come here?. I can see why the Fujitsu's of the world keep their tiny cool little tech toys away from the US, but you'd think we'd be the first market to get the over-sized big SUV style notebooks!

Plus.... is anyone considering what the cost might be, so what it might be a very little bit better than the 9300... you probably got your 9300 for $100s less. I mean, if I had all the money I wanted, I would have got a sony.
i don't think it is gonna be under 2500
The stated price is from 1500 Euros, so I'd say its price is comparable with the i9300...
