Trying to Network Win 2000 Pro (old lappie) to XP (new lappie)

Apparently you can easily network XP to the second edition 98, ME, and of course XP home & pro, but not so easily XP to Win 2K Pro.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I just want to download all my old crap from two Win 2K lappies to my new Dell I9200 (XP); -No need for internet setting stuff.

Thanks

Direct cable. I have the correct cable, too (reverse wired ethernet).

Thanks, B. I'm having rouble in that when I go to confihure the laptop w/ XP on it, I get to the point where I'm supposed to choose "Directly connect to another computer" (-the other option being, "Accept incoming connections").
It's blocked out.
Is this the firewall dcoing this?
