So I just got a Lenovo Yoga 13. This is my review.
As what I primarily do is writing and programming, having a good keyboard is critical for me, which is why a tablet alone can’t work for me, and...
I have owned dozens of laptops in a variety of brands, and had many different laptops provided for my use at work. Without question, this is the finest I have owned. The Alienware M17x R2 is a...
Lenovo Thinkpad W530 Review
by Djembe
One of the longest and most enduring brands in computers is Thinkpad. Originally developed by IBM in the USA, Thinkpad notebook computers are now...
recently my power supply has been making strange noices like the grinding of tiny gears. it still seems to be working fine, but i am worried this is a sign of bad things to come. has anyone else had a similar problem?
I has similar problems with a couple of power supplies. The solderjoints are failing and what you hear is an arching. Eventually it will burn out. Sager will send you a new one. If course, they will say they never heard of this happening. I had it happen three times.
thanks, i am currently in the process of trying to convince Sager to send me a new power supply before this one burns out since any down time will cost me a lot. I will have to send the machine in eventually since the graphics card is beginning to show the signs of death.
Sager replaced mine with another one....too bad it does the same thing. It literally sizzles. Of course Sager said nothing was wrong with the one that I sent in or the one they replaced it with. But only a deaf man could not hear the noise either were making. Whatever. Took them 2 weeks to get me a new one. Good thing I purchased a new one from PCTorque via overnight express to get me by. Im a grad student in the middle of m research. I need my computer everyday and that is why I paid 3 grand expecting the best. What I got was a very buggy laptop. I've had problems with video, sound, ethernet and power source. My solution? I will be purchasing a new computer... Sorry, it will not be a Sager. As far as I'm concerned...this will be an expensive MP3/DVD player and a portable PowerPoint laptop in a couple more months.
I had the same problem, but I only heard the noise 2 or 3 times times. Sager sent me a new one, I had to make a deposit first or else they wanted the whole machine, well, I didn't return it in time for them and they charged my card for the dang thing. So, now that I owned it, I opened it up and sure enough, it was a soldiering problem. I re-soldiered it and now I have one for the truck and one for the house.
hehehe, good one about sager saying they have never heard of this problem before...
i've had to send back a power cable in the past as well, for my 5660, and now my power cable on my 8790 is having the same problem...the rubber coating of the wire peels away where it connects to the brick, and the wiring gets exposed....
eventually, the rubber starts to melt, and you see smoke...
Sager tried to say that it was my fault...yes, i held a lighter to my power cable to see what would happen!
