I have no heat shield with my old 9860

I got one of the first batch of 9860's, when GeF 6800s had no heat shields on them. Sager later added a heat shield for anyone who upgrades a GPU or buys a new model.

Thing is, I have a SB Audigy 2 for my notebook, it goes right next to the GPU, and IVe noticed it gets very very hot. Do I need to send my unit in to add a heat shield?

heat always decreases the life of any component so if you want it to last more than a year than i would get it, for FREE since they shoulda sent you one after they gave everyone else one

I don't think the cost of the shield is free. If you look at the X800 and 6800 rev. 2 pricings, it costs 70 dollars more for the installation of the plate. Also, I don't think they'll let you install it yourself. The extra cost is probably is for the labour and for the plate itself.

I'm waiting for a video card to be released that I think is worth the money and lost time with my machine before taking the plunge for the heat plate. Right now, I'm not sure if the 6800 Go Ultra requires the plate or not, and if it does I'm thinking about if I will consider getting it.

I'll know for sure in the coming month. -_-

I have the same situation as van. I'm pretty sure that to have the plate put in costs like 400 bucks or something.
