webcam

Thread Starter
I was just wondering if any of you use a motion sensor software with their 9860. I will have to leave my laptop unattended at work sometime and I would like to have a software that takes a screen capture of anybody touching my computer and send it via e-mail. I knowI am a little bit paranoid but some computers diappeared before.

I'm not sure about the web cam on the Sager, but I know this web cam has it because my brother uses it all the time.

Get that, or just buy a laptop locking device.

Many "cam" software have motion sensing "auto-on" functions. I have an Intel "Create and Share" version from several years back that would automatically start recording if something "moved" within its field of view, then shut off so many seconds after the motion stopped... . I also have the Logitec 4000 Pro mentioned above - it's very similar. The only thing is it saved the compiled "video file" to the hard drive.. I have never seen any software that would automatically attach "said" video file to an email and send it to ya though etc... (Maybe I need to do some reading on the Logitec... My wife uses it not me....)

I would think you would need to set up a "remote" access to your laptop then tap into the cam etc... I sure couldn't tell you how but would guess it's possible...

Either way, the Sager onboard cam should work.......

Well assuming you could make that software work. I think it would be easy to write a pearl scrypt or even a full out app that automatically sent the email. Even do it with macros if you wanted to go low budget with it.

Would that concept even work? I mean, it doesn't seem like a computer (even a 9860!) could record the file, save to disk, open an email program, and then send a several mb file quicker than a thief could simply walk up, snap down the lid, unplug, and walk off. Perhaps my concept of time is off but I think a thief who just grabs, unplugs, and goes would be too quick to capture, save, and email.

But then again, maybe just the threat of doing that would keep would-be thieves away.
