DDR2 400 ? Firewire? Cost?
ack, you went with ddr2-400 instead of 533???
The V6V ships with 512 MB (256 x 2) of DDR2-400 standard.

Nice looking case on that ASUS. Where do you live? Have not seen an ASUS notebook in the USA.

Toshiba is also shipping the M3 with 400 DDR instead of 533 memory. Is there a reason for manufacts doing this? Anyone know what the deal is? How much did your machine cost in US dollars?

Asus notebooks aren't sold through mainstream retailers. They tend to be offered through retailers who offer whitebox (barebones) notebooks and a few specialty retailers that sell their pre-built systems.

The Asus V6V that's available in the US is going for $2199.

Thanks. The case and sleeve were included with the package. It's looks good and most importantly, I use it. I live in south Orange County in Calif. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to see anyone around here with another V6V.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think DDR2 533 memory is readily available yet. I paid $2199 for a pre-order at ProPortable.com -- only reseller in the U.S. with the V6V at this time. Ask for Justin if you're interested in getting one.

Asus V6V shipped with DDRII-400
Gateway M460XL shipped with DDRII-400
Toshiba Tecra M3 shipped with DDRII-400

Sad to see that Toshiba S2 and A4 both are shipped with DDR-333

by the way, that Asus is man!! THIN!!

By the way, how's the gaming on this baby?

HL2, Doom3, and EQ2.

I ponders many time because of that 64MB video causing me to think twice, several times hehehe

Dang... even the box looks nice!

That thing is beautiful.

I guess that's going to be my next laptop. It's a little pricer than I wanted and I was hoping for either a 14" high res display or a 15.4" wide screen, but it looks good.

As was asked earlier in the thread, how does that X600 64meg perform?

It performs great -- but I'm not much of a gamer. However, Tiger Woods 2003 plays perfect. If you're waiting for a hi-rez 14", I would wait until April for the ASUS W3N. More info here:

This machine is extremely aesthetic and tops on my (short) list.

Do any of you folks know the display specs, especially vertical viewing angles, contrast ratio, and brightness/nits? A very clear and
crisp display is of paramount importance to me.

And is the keyboard comfortable? (admittedly
subjective).

Thanks,

i will let you know when i get mine....tomorrow maybe?? *crossing-fingers*

my dad has a IBM T42, so i will get a nice review with pics, off course, comparing the two. I can tell you this: when it comes down to the keyboards, nothing, and i mean NOTHING, compares to the thinkpad keyboards--they are bliss to work on! <3

i just noticed something--it says that it is a 2X dvd burner, but on ASUS website, it states that it burns at 8X speed...what gives?
That's 2X DVD-RW speed. I don't know what DVD-R speed is. The specs on this drive are very vague.
