I have the T4976. When the screen is completely dark (at the Windows XP startup screen) I can see a bit of light leakage from the top and bottom. It is not severe, and unless the screen is completely dark I cannot tell in the least bit. Also, the angle you can view the screen at for maximum brightness is very small. Are the other screens like that? I'm also experiencing some of the grainy "sparkles" on light colors.
If the other screen seems to have a better viewing angle (no immediate darkness at the edges if you move your head slightly), and a better possibility of no sparklies, then I definitely want to get a new screen.
Question though, if you have them ship the screen to you to install yourself, I heard it is refurbished. Does that really matter? Is there a less chance of you getting a good screen if it is refurbished? Are they the same models as the new ones? Or should I send back my entire laptop for a new screen. It is a great laptop and it would be nice if I could keep using it while I ask them to send me screens until one works nicely with no grain and very little light leakage.
Also, do I only have 21 days to have them change my screen or can it be within my one year warranty? Thanks.
