Just noticed last night mine does have sparkle....but its only on light large areas that I notice it. No biggie. Never noticed it whil playing WWIIOL last night!

I was in Office Depot the other day, man some of those Glossy Screened Toshibas were incredible looking! I imagine reflections would be a bear, but they sure were sweet. What's up Dell!!!!

First of all I am a complete newbie to laptops, I have nothing to compare to with my new 9300, so keep that in mind. My previous setup was a desktop with a 19" sony CRT. I have a 17" samsung LCD screen on my desktop machine at work.

I have the 1440x900 WXGA+ T4976. When I first got it the DPI was wrong and the screen looked terrible. I changed it to 96.

I was very impressed with the screen and found it vastly superior to the big CRT I had before. The resolution at 1440x900 feels just right to me in terms of font and icon sizes. This is a desktop replacement machine so I need it for more than just games and DVD's - I use it for email, Quicken and web as well.

The colors and brightness are incredible. I was blown away by World of Warcraft (which runs at the native resolution which is nice). Frame rate is also quite good. Other games I've tried are Rome Total War and Sid Meier's Pirates. Both look very good and run smoothly. Pirates will only run at a non-native resolution. I've tried it stretched to the full screen and native with black borders and I can't tell much difference.

I downloaded a wallpaper of some clouds and blue sky at the native resolution (from a Mac site). It looks stunning and people are very impressed when they see it. I can't find any defective pixels but I'm not expert in spotting such things.

Compared to the 17" samsung I have at work, I think the i9300 screen is more sensitive to angle. The samsung is rock solid in terms of brightness and color even from an slight angle. If I don't have the 9300 screen just right I see light leakage and inconsistency in the brightness and colors across the screen. This is pretty subjective and I could be wrong about this.

Those are my general impressions. I am very happy with it and it will replace my old desktop. I can't wait to travel with it.

I would say the biggest fault of the T4976 is the poor viewing angles. You can't move your head 2 inches to the side without noticing it, and you need to make sure the upright angle of the screen is just right. At first, I didn't like the overly bright, glossy look on light colors, but I think I have somehow gotten used to it or have just found settings that minimize this. The excellent colors on darks seem to make up for it. I have also discovered some leakage on the top and bottom, but it's only noticed when viewing the screen from a large angle, so it's not a problem. Otherwise the notebook is excellent, especially for the price.

To check online use your service tag number on the bottom of your online part list.

Go to support area and input that service tag. Then click on system and it will give complete part lists with service numbers. Mine was built with:

"X4766 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY, WXGA+, STANDARD PANELS WORKING GROUP, 17, SAMSUNG"

but my xps2 and 9300 are both still in production. so i don't have a service tag yet. i looked in the order details by clicking on the order number and in the detailed specs when going into the order status page... no service tag. advice?

My 3rd WXGA (!!!!!!!!!!!?????),again, has major light leakage. Everbody else should get decent screens because they're saving all the bad one's for me.
Viewing angle is not good on this, also a little sparkle, but not noticeable unless you specifically look for it.

Light leakage is quite severe. Can see it well when lights are off, Yes, it would make movies not as nice, but I think the brightness of the screen makes it up.

Overall, quite impress with the screen and machine. Though I need to figure out how to turn off the fans to make it quiet.

Damn. I'm sort of glad I got the T4976 LG display now...especially after comparing it side-by-side with a X4766 Samsung display.

Samsung here....very happy with the display.

It isn't any Sony but as bright and good color as most non-reflective displays I've seen.

any of you guys planning on adding the nushield?

Seems nuts to add shiny coating to non-reflective screen.

Even Nushield admits it lowers contrast and brightness. What the heck would you do that for. The only reason for a shiny screen is if it was designed that way from the getgo.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm anyone else?

well i could always return it if it looked like crap

My apologies if I'm bumping an old thread, but I think I should definitely post this in this thread.

I just got a 9300 yesterday (April 12 2005) and I love the laptop as a whole, but I got a really crappy screen. It has leakage at the top, bottom, sides and very bright corners. I also have light leakage towards the center as well! I do not, however, notice any sparkling effect and I feel the color representation is quite good! Vertical and horizontal viewing angles are sensitive! I cannot move two inches from dead center for best picture!

I ran PowerStrip and it says I have a LPL0000. I suppose this is an LG screen. On the Dell invoice list, it says I have a T4976. I'm trying to get a hold of someone at Dell to see if I can have the screen replaced.

One last thing, there is a quite a bit of heat build up at the center of the bottom of the laptop labeled "M". This is by far the hottest part of my laptop. Anyone else experience this?
