I do not know exact numbers but I do understand the concept of economics of scale.
Think of this. If there was one more part in the kitting room of a 30 piece order and that one more part bin that added 2 feet walking distance for an employee in the kitting room to go grab. Thats an increase in the amount of labor per order and roughly a 3% decrease order throughput. If they are doing 23,000 orders a day as they are in Texas then that’s 766 less machines getting built per day due to adding a single option.
On top of that they would have to have both LCDs on hand all the time.
Currently, if any part is out of stock the entire line comes to a grinding halt. The reason for multiple vendors of parts is that if one shipment from one company gets delayed it does not slow the juggernaught of production.
I am guessing at the numbers here but you can see how small options could have a vast effect. If they are going to give the option of LCD, why not the option for hard drive manufacture or Ram, or keyboard. Where does it stop? There would be many many more parts in the kitting room. This would decrease the effecinecy and in the end increase the cost of production and finally the cost to the consumer (YOU).
Then you have subtract what percent of people are going to be dissatisfied if they do not get something they like. My guess is the number is extremely low. So even if they have to pay to send techs to you or ship your machine back to them the cost would not justify creating an inefficiency fore mentioned the manufacturing process.
Remember most people don’t come to forums and the people who do find forums is because they have a problem they need to solve. So inherently forms are full of people with problems. The people without problems are out using their machines.
