Can't get other people off my wireless network!

I have setup WPA pre shared key encryption on my wireless network. I am using Wi-Fi Denfense and see two other users ("foes") on my network and I cannot get them off. I have setup MAC filtering and it is supposed to only be allowing my MAC Address to access the wireless network, but there are two other MAC Addresses showing up.

If you have MAC filtering setup to allow only the addresses you specify and it is still allowing other MAC adresses to use it, you have a faulty router.

It wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that I have desktops plugged into the router also, would it?

do this... DISABLE your DHCP, use mac filtering, use ip filtering, manuely assign the ip addresses on your computers, disable SSID broadcast and change your ssid to something like hf9834hf9834 or something RANDOM, no need for wep.

No. MAC filtering is just that ... it should never allow allow any computers on the network except those that you specified. The only way around it is for someone to clone one of he accepted MAC addresses. pr50wner made some very good suggestions for securing the network. The only thing I do differently is using encryption. It is still a good idea to use WEP/WPA. Also make sure you have changed the routers default user name/password and that remote administration is disabled.

Well I just tried disabling the DHCP server as you suggested pr50wner, and now I can't get into the router settings anymore and I can't get online with my laptop. How do I put it back?

WHen you disable the DHCP server, you must manually assign the NIC (orwireless card) and address.

How do I do that?

Go to your network connections. Right click the appropriate device and select properties. Highlight Internet Protocol and select properties. Set the IP addy to the same address as your router, except changing the last number set. For example, if your router address is 192.168.1.1, set your IP to 192.168.1.53. Subnet mask 255.255.255.0. Default gateway should be set to your router's address. DNS server should be set to router address.

uhh i said disable DHCP and assign ip manually, dont use common ones like 192.168.1.1 use something like 192.168.1.69 or 57 or 231, then thow on IP filtering so you will only allow your OWN computers IP address to connect, if your computer has the ip, no one else can have it since they will get an error on their end.

Ok I just did that and it says I'm connected now, but I still can't get online or access my router settings.

I would bet one of the thieves knows your login password for your laptop.

I would do all the stuff the others listed and use WPA. I would also clear the DHCP client list as it may be showing users who no longer maintain access.

Ok so I how do I get back to where I was then?

If you have hosed a bunch of settings, just do a hard reset on the router. For most you just have to hold a reset button on the back in for a specified amount of time (30 seconds or so?)
plug strait into the router, assign diffrent ip addresses for your LAN jack and WLAN card

you MUST be on the same subnet as your router as in if your router is

192.168.1.1 you have to have the first 3 octects the same so your computers lan would be 192.168.1.2 and your WLAN would be 192.168.1.3

you cannot get to your router if your ip is 192.1.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 (the last one you MAY be able to but just make the first 3 octets the same 192.168.1.xx)

once you get back on your router, change the admin password, change the routers SSID to crazy charaters (#$#%h29fh4) or something, change the router;s IP address to something other than 192.168.1.1 (make it 192.168.1.69 or something) only allow your own mac address to connect and only your manualy assigned ip address to get on

Well I got back on, but I haven't changed anymore settings yet. WiFi Defense now shows the two users as not online. Should I just leave it alone?

Not if you want to keep them off

LOL yeah your back to square 1 and you know how to LOCK it down so lets do it right this time, if not you can always just reset, MAKE SURE you have ALL mac addresses added before turning on MAC filtering or you have to go back to sq 1

I was able to do all of these things except manually assign ip addresses, where do I do this?

Both MAC filtering and WEP are wildly inadequate - with little to no training (besides 5 minutes searching online and a simple download or two) someone can crack both of those.

Get a router with WPA enabled security - make sure your wireless cards support it as well - they should though.
