9860 and 6800 Ultra benchmarks

Let's try this again (no flames) with much better drivers

The tests have been run again without the joke drivers that were used as I suspected. The only thing changed was the drivers were updated to the 76.10 drivers, and the Doom3 benchmark was run at the same setting Tom's review ran it at to compare:

The unit tested was stable with no heat issues so I would imagine the results can be considered real world as far as what users will likely see. As with any pre-release benched though, the drivers and firmware could be changed to take the results either higher or lower.

Any idea on an approximate date units will be available to ship with the ultra ?

So, I have a 9860 84xxx serial with the orginal 6800 without the heat sheild. How much would it cost to get the ultra put in? Too early to know?

battery life should be somewhere around 7-12 min... enough time to listen to a quick song before having to shut down ....

i dont actualy know but it is going to be short.... under 1 hour i would guess

omg, that 3dmark score is just incredible... and even if battery life takes yet another hit, people don't get the 9860 for the battery life; they get it for the power >=D

Actually as far as I'm aware it's not overclocked, instead they've used a 0.11 nanometer manufacturing process for the core and it now produces less heat than the old Go 6800 cores, enabling them to push the MHz higher in a stock configuration. Battery life really shouldn't be that different, the 9860 employs throttling that keeps the power draw at a level the batteries can handle with the side-effect of dramatically reduced performance which decreases in steps as the battery runs down. Also, the power supply can only output 180W no matter what video card you have in the system so the Go 6800 Ultra simply cannot be drawing a significantly different amount of power, nor can it be running significantly hotter than an overclocked Go 6800 rev. 1 or 2 (which many of us have been running without ill effect for quite some time now).

Uh, is it just me or are the 3DMark03 scores abnormally high and the Aquamark score abnormally low?

Also, verification on the requirement of the plate for this GPU would make me happy.

Me want!

Wow, these numbers are virtually the same as Dell's. I wonder what the specs were on this test computer. Didn't see it in the review. I'm sure it's jacked up as far as it goes though.

I'd expect 45mins to an hour battery life with DVD playback and max specs. Wimpy apps like most places base their battery life will probably get close to twice that. The temp and fan noise should not really change from the original 9860 review, but we won't know for sure until we get to test.

I do not expect any major changes to be required to do this upgrade, but we won't know for sure until the pricing and details are released.

OK, I second this. Between this and the XPS2 ship date, it's like waiting for a baby to be born. As much as I am "laboring" over sitting on the fence between the two machines, these are quite an exciting times.

Question Adam?

Sager does not have an upgrade policy to where you would pay the difference. If you want to change from your units original configuration you would need to return your unit for a refund and reorder.

Anything past the nVidia 6800 Go DDR2 requires the copper plate to be installed.

I've been speaking to ITC in just the last week about the Ultra and they are keenly aware of it's existence, in fact they were interested in getting a test unit in if possible, now that it's been officially announced I suspect they'll be ordering some as soon as they become available. ITC have been quick to get in the latest stuff from overseas, I received shipment of my D900T (9860) back in mid-November last year which was within two weeks of it's release by Sager in the US.
