MSI MEGABOOK S270 (smack on centrino's a$$)

Beautiful Laptop too bad I have to wait until April. I read that it is going to cost 999 Euros, around 1350$, not bad for such a cool laptop. If anyone knows where are they going to sell these in the US let me know I'll be the first buyer, otherwise I'll take the first plane to Europe just to get it.

MSI MEGABOOK S270 Specs

Hehe looks like they copied some of the new ASUS notebooks... but without all of the design touches that make the ASUS look nice.

Ugly ugly ugly, imo.

Look kinda ugle. Sort of like the Gateway 7(something) series
post #4 of 38
i have a unique taste(at least that is what i say when people say thing that i like are ugly) but read the manual and it says max battery is like 5hrs, and with a turion maybe a little more, any frame on it for the state side, its out in germany for about 530 euros actually (barebones)

Looks like the ASUS W3.

I like the minimalist look, but it lacks oomph (a color palette and general design theme, more specifically, like either make it angular or make it curvy. but don't make boxes with curved corners... that's just a defaulted cop-out)

that laptop looks like a 10yr old ibm

also no gigabit lan, only 3 usb ports, no spdif,
post #7 of 38
some of us like the old look, just give me black and plain, that what it is , i only need three usb ports, the one extra port will not change my life, and as for sound port, yeah ti does not have one, but the ati sounds system in that chipset is better then most, finally gigabyte lan, don't care, everything is geared for a type of user in this case, i like to think of it as a productive 64bit linux box, that gets really great battry life, i wish i could find one online

I agree with BlinkSilver in everything. There is nothing better than that in that size, I personally like everything even the design, plain and simple, nothing complicated and ugly like the Asus Z71V, plus this is the only 12.1" decent looking laptop, all of the 12.1" are ugly and have weird structures. I personally would buy one whenever they are available. Plus it would be cool to install Windows 64 on that laptop.

Super Portable and Powerful, what else can you ask for?, maybe 5 layers of Ferrari red car paint and 3 layers of clear coat and it will run like a Ferrari.

The site that was linked to at first says it gets Over 3.5hrs of battery life.
yeah, i know, but i took the time to do some research, and the manual says that the larger battery max at 5hrs, which mean low screen, simple word doc, and maybe no wireless, which is fine, because i really need the battery for notes in class, the benchmark is probably under more involved use

i was wondering if any of the german resellers ship to the us, the price would be good even with the shipping because we don't have to pay VAT 5-6 hundred euro at that bad, plus it is turion ready, so a nice seagate momentus harddrive, a gb of ddr400, and 27watt 1.8ghz turion would fit the bill nicely, and the lower voltage turion would give it better battery life

If they sell that thing in silver, that might be my next portable. Of course I will wait for them to put in a turion and the price to drop a little. So, let's say 6-8 months from now?? But of course, by then, a host of turion portables would be out.
it supports turion now, i think it does come i black silver and white, plus barebones, means build you self for cheap, all you have to do is find a place that sells turions, and find a place that ships to the us and you are golden

Yes that laptop comes in White, Silver and Black, and supposedly I read in CNET that X2 USA (www.x2usa.com) is going to sell it here in the US. I wrote an email to them like a month ago asking for the S270 and they have not replied yet. Also, I wrote an email to MSI Taiwan and they didn't help either. I wonder why companies are so dumb, they should be interested in selling their stuff why are they so not helpful?

And BlinkSilver I wrote an email to many companies in Germany asking if they ship to the US and they said they wouldn't so I guess we will have to see if we can get those things directly from a US reseller hopefully.

I receive an email from MSI saying that Synnex is a MSI Laptop reseller, currently they only have the 510C. I wrote an email to them asking if they will sell the S270, lets see what are they going to say. Also in a german website I read that the S270 will be available by April 4th or 5th.

At 4.1 lbs this isnt that bad of a notebook.

However, personaly, I dont have a use for a powerful processor unless I plan on gaming with it, which also requires a strong gpu, something this notebook lacks.

My current 10 inch widescreen, 7hr battery life, 1.1GHz P-M, at 3lbs is enough for me, in fact, I am beginning to think about trading this notebook for something with an even slower cpu, a transmeta effeceon!

But, I can definetely see some people having a use for a small, yet powerful notebook, even if the gpu isnt the best. If the price is right and the screen is any good, then this will definetely be a nice alternative to all of those intel laptops.

i think i say this too much, and i am aware that linux is not everyones thing, not trying to force it on anyone, but, if you don't game, i play FFXI, but this is more then enough, and want the full speed of your CPU, are willing to try something new, then this and a copy of ubuntu linux are a match made in hevean, 64bits, just means faster, there is no comparison, my firefox turns quick as a bullet, i use it for class, a great set of free software, and the right wireless card there is full hardware support, it really is perfect, it just can't be denied, i run it on my m6805, only reason i am switching is size, otherwirse, i really love it,
