I dont understand... The x800xl is $100 cheaper than the 6800GT...? Wouldnt it be better to get the cheaper card if I'm not a big gamer. And no, I really wont be moving alot at all.

I agree on your opinion on the mobo and ram.

FDisk is right about the mobo, personally I wouldn't go with anything other than Asus (my preference) but with the budget you had compromises had to be made...

If you can step up to around $140 for a mobo, go with this one:
ASUSnForce4 Chipset Motherboard For AMD Socket 939 CPU, Model "A8N-E"

$1500 would get you a very nice hooker or two, or maybe a hooker and some drugs...

Yeah, I'm familiar with ASUS... I'll probably go with them. I'll take a closer look at the ram, psu, and mobo later...

Thanks.

Will this ddo? I dont think I'm going to be able to afford the ram, psu, and mobo. am I better off getting something else or better off getting the better ram with a "worst" psu and mobo or the "worst" ram with a better ?

^^wow... thats really nice. BTW, I also looked at mwave since I saw that their 4000+ was cheaper. IDK how that will come into affect against your system. Thanks again. That was unbelievably nice.

I'll check it out.

Naturally..

In case you didn't notice jc, I put two harddrives in the config. One being the system drive and the other the storage drive. The system drive is a WD Raptor, which has quite a speed advantage against all other drives.
If I may dare say, the system is pretty well balanced with no real weaknesses but obviously also not equipped with any non-plus-ultra graphics or processor. That's just not possible with the budget.
But the platform is damn solid to upgrade on. The AMD dual core processor, codename Toledo to hit stores in second half of 2005, can be run on a Socket 939 board.
If the 6600 should not suffice for your purposes later this year, just swap it with a 6800, which should be considerably cheaper then.
Product cycles are so fast, about 6 months, that shelling out huge amounts of money for a current top-of-the-line product is wasted money, if you won't even make extensive use of it. Sure, it's nice to have it, but if you don't have the money you have to get your priorities right.
