If you haven't been on Omega's website lately I would suggest you check it out. www.omegadrivers.net He wrote an interesting bit on what's been going on lately with him. I personally think the guy has done some amazing work for us in regards to driver updates and overclocking. I sent him some money. Anyway, check it out.

Poor guy, I might send him a donation.

There really isn't much skill to what he does. He just repacks the certified drivers written by the software engineers at ATI or Nvidia.

And slaps on an Omega symbol. Repackaging, huh, I guess that's why he can't charge for the software or make it open source.

He still accepts donations and let's everyone know that both him and his old lady are broke.

if you are using his version of the drivers then you should all donate $$

He is not just repackaging, guyz. I had problems with games not playing like doom3 and when I used his drivers they worked perfectly. Don't forget radlinker! How many of you guyz are using it?

I'm not sure what he does because I choose to not to use his software but he definitely doesn't write any of the driver source code...

Maybe before you make comments somms, you should know what you're talking about. The Omega drivers include many hacks and optimizations that fix problems and vastly improve performance over stock ATI drivers. Do some reading and you'll see what kind of performance difference the Omega drivers deliver. Radlinker is written by someone else and included in the Omega package. It allows you to overclock and manipulate resolutions that the stock ATI drivers don't provide the ability to do. The Omega drivers also give you an easy way to softmod certain 9500 and 9800 cards to give extremely better performance.

Bottom line is that he doesn't write the code therefore he cannot charge for his work because it isn't actually his work.

DELL-Machina also reported that the HDTV out function works only with omega's drivers.
I could only get HDTV out working on my old Ti4200 before with his drivers. He does some good work. Although, while he says that all of these competing drivers are hurting the community, I disagree. Competition is never a bad thing. People wanting the best performance and many 3rd parties willing to strive to get that is never a bad thing. While I appreciate the work that he does, if he does leave the community, which it is seems he will, there will be 3 other people who will (try to) take his place. Whether they will be as good or not I can't say, but I think that the more people working on this, the better.

Yeah, I don't care if the guy hasn't written the code himself or not. The fact is that he packages, has Radlinker, optimizations and updates and I sure as hell don't see anyone else doing that so don't bag on the guy and yes I did send him a donation and yes I think he does deserve it. And yeah, if you are using these drivers you should throw a few bucks his way. Think of all the stupid shit you spend 5 bucks on throughout the week, why don't you take that 5 bucks and do something productive for someone and send it to him; and until I see someone doing what he does then NO ONE has the place to down on what he does.

Just to clear up what I said. I am a big proponent of open source, free software or which just makes certain pats of computing life easier and cool. I write it my self. And I do encourage people to donate as I intend to. But people are not obligated to do it and programmers shouldn't expect them to because you cannot make a living writing that type of software.

Hrm, I donated 15 bucks, i hope it helps.

I love that omega guy !!!
Donate !!!

It's hard when your out of work, and that just makes it harder to do the other things we want to do. So some of the stuff he is saying is probably coming out of the frustration he is dealing with.
Its true. The Omega drivers were the ONLY drivers I could get HDTV output to work on my 9100.

ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/sp3...00/SP30104.exe

HDTV or no HDTV...Omega's hacked drivers are old and tired. Grab the latest WHQL-Certified unified ATI Mobility Driver at the link above...backwards compatible w/the M18/M11/M10, ect., ect.
Old and tired? Dude I never get stock ATI catalyst drivers. I always get Omegas. His drivers just kickass. Sure he does not recode or anything but there is a crapload of registry and other optimizations he does. And even ATI supports him because he ATI officially has acknowledged his work.
