Here is a comparison of the 5680 and 8890 using Adam's benchmarks:

BENCHMARKS

Sandra CPU ALU
5680 9659
8890 9964

Sandra CPU FPU
5680 2766
8890 2766

Sandra CPU SSE
5680 6164
8890 6132

Sandra CPU Multi-Media Integer
5680 14783
8890 14777

Sandra CPU Multi-Media Float
5680 23367
8890 23097

Sandra Memory Bandwidth
5680 4318/4320
8890 4076/4102

UT2K3 800 X 600 Flyby
5680 204
8890 190

UT2K3 800 X 600 Botmatch
5680 76
8890 77

UT2K3 1024 X 768 Flyby
5680 146
8890 130

UT2K3 1024 X 768 Botmatch
5680 75
8890 75

So, according to this, the 5680 won 6 tests, the 8890 won two tests, and they tied on two tests.

Its too close to call...I dont think you can read into these scores because even one extra process running in the 8890 or 5680 (the 8890 has some crazy hardware that the 5680 doesnt have) can affect the scores...

And in any case...I think the scores are more or less the same...

Agreed.

Why the difference on the memory bandwidth test?

I don't know...... why the difference in the CPU ALU test?

Why the difference in any of the tests???

Adam said that 2 different sandra tests were used. That's why he didn't compare them together.

Does the keyboard have a nice feel or are keys squishy? What about heat? Do your hands get uncomfortably warm while typing. Does the top surface get warm and/or hot to the touch, or is most of the heat on the bottom of the notebook. What about fan noise? How loud and how frequently do the fans turn on?

For the 8890:
1. nice feel to the keyboard
2. most heat goes out the left side on a 5680 and the right side on an 8890.
3. I find that the kb can get warm at times due to heat but not unbearable
4. near the touch pad can get warm if the primary disk is being thrashed
5. very little heat on the bottom however the fans suck air thru vents there so you have to be very careful putting it onto anything that could block the vents (table cloths are a *BAD* idea as I discovered once).
6. Once you do the mod to the internal fan (see this thread) the laptop is reasonably quiet.
7. Fans turning on depends on the application. Gaming the fans run full speed. In a quiet room you can hear them but I find a room fan drowns them out. Normal surfing about 25% of the time the fans are on.

BTW welcome to the forum SharkDiver.

Maybe one was hotter than the other?
