Anyone been in this position before? Any ideas? Who can be f'ed waiting until Monday?

Petar.
I've called Toll (or... ahem... "Toll _Fast_" ) and they've booked me in for Monday. They didn't want to know about me picking it up personally. It'd be unacceptable for Aust Post to take 6 days for a Sydney to Sydney delivery, yet alone a courier company.

I could complain to Toll, but I'll wait until after it's delivered. In the meantime I've lodged a complaint with Dell... pointing out that they're being let down (and made to look bad) at this end.

Guess I'll have to spend this weekend with the family.

It's absolutely ridiculous. So the delivery was missed, but through no one's fault in particular. I think they can just try the next day rather than me having to go through Dell to arrange a redelivery schedule. I have to wait 1 to 2 working days just so Dell can let Bax (and their underlings) that I did not receive the delivery. So now they have to chat amongst themselves and then give me a call to work out that I have not yet received my laptop. I called Toll directly and let them know, and they aren't interested at all. They suggested I contact Dell! I offered a courier pickup, a personal pickup, not one was acceptable, and these were at my cost!

I don't know how this company thinks... It's shocking business practice. If you miss the first day, try again on the second. Or at least organise it directly with the customer rather than having to go all the way through Dell.

It's all a bunch of tree huggin' hippie crap IMHO...

That's my thoughts anyway...

Its a pile of Beuraeucratic bullshit really. When they supposedly missed my delivery, I kept calling Dell and mentioned that I had a planned business trip that I had specifically ordered this laptop for and that if I did not have it for that trip then I might as well not have it. I kept dealing directly through the rep I made the order with and he made a few phone calls and was the one that actually let me know that the damn computer had actually been at the local warehouse for the last few days and that I could go and pick it up. So if you have been going through Dell delivery, try your rep and put some pressure on him possibly hinting at a return but as always being as polite as possible and see what he can do. As you point out physically, there is no problem picking the item up from the warehouse, as long as your rep can fast track the red tape.

Cheers

sweet, just got mine delivered, havent opened it yet. im gonna go play with it for a bit. might come back later and post some impressions.

Hey, have you guys who have received the laptops got the S-Video cable with it as well? What optional little extras have you got that you weren't expecting.

nah man, i didnt get that cable. didnt order it and didnt get lucky. it basically just came with a bunch of software, manuals, power adapter and deluxe nylon bag (which is quite nice i must say, big though). this laptop is very nice, seems to be really well constructed. there are a couple of figerprints on the lcd though (filthy dell techs and their greasy fingerprints) lol. the delivery guy was sort of throwing it round too when he came which was a little disturbing. anyways, havent turned her on yet, im gonna go take care of that now.
I can't believe you haven't turned it on yet... Obviously the paranoia concerning the LCD doesn't bother you Let us know whet the model is and how it looks.

LCD:
- Brightness, I've to agree that the screen looks a bit darky but acceptable.
- Can't spot any sparkle.
- Color is awesome ... except white (greyish a bit)
- Very little to no light leakage at all.
- 2 suspected dead pixels
- Grey is grey (the sephia wallpaper from the other thread)
- Like everyone else's LG, missing 1 brightness state.

Sound:
Great!!

Fan noise:
None to very quite.

Keyboard:
Got Chinese one, a little noisy but like it.

HDD:
100GB FUJITSU MHU2100AT, throughput 26MB/s. Very quite!

RAM:
Samsung 1GB (will get timing and model number later)

DVD-ROM:
NEC, only noisy while spinning (obviously:P).

PS: if I'll use this lappy for long time, does the 3 yrs warranty worth to upgrade to?

Ahhh!! I missed my delivery too. I didn't specifically tell Bax to leave it at Reception, I just assumed the courier would do so if I wasn't available..BUT the reception desk said the delivery guy was apparently *new*.. he got all flummoxed and left... Dell said that the computer will have to be returned to the warehouse (?? i hope they don't mean they're shipping it back to Malaysia.. ) and a delivery tomorrow is definitely out of the question . . . The really dumb thing is that they'll send the extra quicksnap cover tomorrow. . but not the computer itself.

Oh, and apparently "the customer is not allowed to liaise with the courier company".. .wt*??

Gee they're really that bad! OK first thing tomorrow I'm telling the people at reception that if someone comes in holding a Dell computer box, to give me a yell ... thank goodness I'll be in a meeting just down the hall when the courier is scheduled to arrive!

Heh, yeah, you'd better. My guess is that the customer has to personally sign for the package... so if you're not there . . buh bye! Of course, you could get someone to impersonate you, unless they ask for ID. . .

What bugs me is the to-ing and fro-ing b/w Dell and the courier company

Hey dude, i got mine today as well.. i have to say its a very impressive laptop, did a quick bench stock standard and got 2994 in 3dmark05... it really needs a reinstall desperately though cause dell have absolutely bogged it up with crappola software and stuff...

one thing that hasnt impressed me so far is the screen.. it looks like i most likely got the lg mr-sparkle screen and not the samsung but the most distracting thing about it is the fact that it has some very noticeable light leakage along the bottom... it really does bother me so it looks like i will have to get in touch with dell about getting a recplacement.. *sigh*

ahh well... so long as i end up with a good screen without noticeable light leakage and crap then its worth the effort..

will probably format tonight and install windows media center 2005 and latest optimized forceware drivers and do some video card overclocking and see how she goes.. will post scores for 3dmark03/05 etc after that..

hope you guys all have better luck with yours screens..

ohh might give powerstrip a go in a minute and confirm that its the lg screen.
Sorry to hear that kobranet ...
Hopefully you'll get better LCD replacement.
Bummer about the screen - if I get a bad screen I'm gonna take it as a sign and go straight for the non-gloss XGA+ screen instead, I might even prefer the lower native res in the long-run too, we'll see.
well, im also very happy with my notebook (no problems from stock setup) except for the light leakage on the bottom of the screen on the lcd..

I have the samsung screen
