it could be better ... 3200-ish.

I got my 9300 also this morning. Haven't had time to play around with it till late tonight. Thank God I got a Samsung SEC5557 (K9975) LCD as well as the soft Thai-made keyboard. Does have a narrow band of light leakage down the bottom of the screen but otherwise the screen is great. I'm already used to the sparkles in my Samsung LCD in the "old" 9200 (which my dad is now using).

Accidentally installed XP Media Edition into a tiny partition (typed in 1500MB instead of 15000MB for the primary partition in XP setup!!!), and now re-doing the whole thing. I usually want my C: to be around 15GB. Looks like another wasted hour!

Just wonder which driver version is actually THE FASTEST. Also which tool to use to overclock the go6800? I heard we can use coolbits or other auto-detect tools....

Overall this laptop is pretty decent, no complaints at all at this stage given my satisfaction of the 9200.

Psinewave, before you return it, could you run powerstrip? i.e. what's your LCD.
According to Powerstrip it's an LPL0000 ... so the usual sparkly one.

Having said that, it doesn't seem *that* bad ... if I look for it I see it but in general use it seems OK.

Having said that, I've got a collegue who has quite sensitive eyes (he doesn't run with a white background on a CRT because it's painful for him), I gave him a look at this screen without telling him about the sparkles and asked him "what do you think", he immediately said there was something wrong about it and his eyes were hurting but he couldn't figure out what it was, I told him what sparkles were and he immediately said that that was the sort of thing he was seeing ... so I guess it really does vary from person to person.

I think I'll give it a week and see. As a side issue, I compared it with the LCD I'm using on my desk now and that one sparkles even more (but that's because I haven't cleaned it for a while) ... so perhaps I can live with it ... recon I should swap it back anyway? What sort of bother have Aussies been put through to get sparkling screens replaced? (I have the 3 year collect-and-return warranty with theft and accident cover if that makes a difference.)

Well I'm completely in love with my 9300!

The screen is brilliant, it runs wicked fast and deadly quiet, it doesn't get hot anywhere around the wrist-rest area (a real problem with my other lappies), the speakers are ace, the media buttons are really handy - abolsutely everything about it performs better than expected!

Sounds really tedious, I doubt that we'll get it by Wednesday... Well, if you make any progress pls post..
I called up Dell's 1800 hotline and spoke to a woman to whom (is that right, to whom?) I explained my situation. She said that it would take 1-2 working days just to confirm that the order was not delivered and to schedule a new time... That's ridiculous. I asked if I could change the delivery from one room in our department down the hall to another room, she said this constituted a change in delivery address and said it may take extra time... OMG...

Anyway, seeing as it already needs to be reconfirmed, I changed the addy as well, from one room down 20 metres to another. Maybe if couriers read signs on doors this needn't have ever happened. Absolutely ridiculous. Go to the next office and ask around. Don't just leave. Although, my dad's a courier too, and I know what he gets up to...

Will keep you posted, Uhoo, let me know if anything can be done than waiting around twiddling my thumbs...

LOL!!! Hopefully in a few days I'll be saying the same thing...

Which screen did you end up getting?
Not sure! On my order it was the screen model that started with 'k'. The Samsung isnt it?

I got my 9300 on 1st.... though i was not quite sure about the screen (after readings all the crap things abt the screen in this forum), I am totally becoming crazy abt this lappie the more and more I sit infront of it.........my screen on the invoice is K9975 but when i run powerstrip, it just display manufacturer as Microsoft ..and model number N/A... but i think its the LG..as the the color is very vibrant and deep.... though I can see sparkle in white background..but i do manage to fixed it by adjusting the color correction tool..... now the more i look into the screen, the more i am becoming in-tune with it... the glossy coating is great....... and the resolution 1920x1200 is awesome... I just can't imagine using any resolution less than this..... Overall, I love the LG Screen, (I have not seen the Samsung) Sound is great, so is the DVD playback......

Same here ... the lab was empty today so I cranked up the volume ... OK so it ain't no 5,000,000 watt sound system but it was pretty darn impressive coming from a laptop ... but the best thing is, this is also the sort of laptop sound system that you can turn down and still have sound reasonably decent. Keyboard is also nice - it feels "chunky", it has a satisfying touch to it, not like some of the Sony Vaios that seem a little 'flimsy' (not so much the keyboard itself but the keytops) ...

Stability seems a bit tricky ... I'm running the 71.84 nVidia driver which fixed some of the problems but every now and again it still dies on shutdown (bluescreen and memory dump) ... *shrug*

Sounds about right, guess the only thing we can do now is wait for the courier to ring. .

Cool, I've wanted to try Objectdock, but I've heard that it's pretty resource-intensive. I think my current laptop would just roll over and die . . Thanks for the wallpaper link!

Calm, I use Objectdock too - but how did you get your recycle bin icon off your desktop?
To hide Recycle Bin from Desktop (not remove) Create or modify the following registry entry

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIc ons\NewStartPanel

{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

REG_DWORD

0x00000001

Refresh the desktop or if the icon is still there, restart.... good luck
post #299 of 313
Actually, I just grabbed the TweakUI Xp util from the Windows website and it let me remove it - thx anyway.

Looks like the 33% coupon is back, only it's 25% off for the 2.13 ghz 9300. BTW has anybody ordered the extra large backpack that's now listed?
