8790 LCD Screen

hello all...

i am concerned about my LCD screen... there are several areas on my screen that are slightly darker but i can only see them when i am viewing a solid colored screen.(windows background...etc...) it kinda looks like when ya "accidently" press on the screen and ya get a slightly darker area but in this case nothing is touching the screen or against it to leave an impression. it mostly appears in the upper half of the screen so it is not the keypad.. it doesnt seem like a dead pixel, graphics still appear and is not noticeable while viewing anything other than a solid screen. anyone notice anything like this on their screen?..

thanks

I have this distortion as well. It's about the size of a nickel and appears to be a translucent grey smudge. It does indeed look like someone is pressing on the screen. Sometimes it's difficult to see, other times it's plain as the nose on your face.

My laptop arrived with the distortion. The company I bought my 8790 from was unfamiliar with the phenomenon (and was unwilling to replace the screen).

About 3 months ago my 8790 started the screen flickering problem, however I "fixed" it by turning the brightness down one level. A few weeks later I started to notice that the whole right side (from the middle over) of the screen was a darker shade than the left side of the screen. I'm pretty sure this is a video inverter problem and I'll be RMAing it by the end of this month, so I'll be sure and update on how Sager did.

I got it back today and everything seems to be in working order. I'll just keep it one level down from max brightness hoping it doesn't go out again.

glad to hear... er .. read. good stuff. knocking it down a notch sounds like a good idea. also... i did send it in with a fan problem (see prior posts on fan noises) that didnt seem to get fixed last time but now i have a nice sounding non grinding fan.
