9300 owners: with the samsung replacement kit W9892 - Page 2

Anyone else wonder why they show you the cost and calculate the tax on the replacement LCD, freaked me out that the price said $106 (not $488.95 for some reason), until I saw payment method was 'exchange'. Also you think it's a coincidence that replaceing the LG screen on the i9300 is refered to as a POS (Parts Only Service) on the Dell site.
Supposedly, that's the amount they will try to collect from you if you fail to return the replaced part.

Seriously guys, if this is a new screen without the problems, tell me how to get it. And if its possible to have it doen through dell, please, please, please gimme the low down so i can make the change. Thanx.
It's just a new LCD panel with cable. It's for the self-installer. But the screen is a Samsung which most of the new 9300 owners with LG panels are after.

That's wierd because mine show $488.94 plus $24.45 tax. The payment method is "NET 15 REPLACEM."

UNInspector, what is the price of your LCD Kit?

Dell customer service is beginning to amaze me more and more each day. First they send out a free 9-cell battery for free and got it to me in 3 days. Now my LCD kit has been shipped 6 hours after talking to them for 15 min. Thank you Dell! Keep up the good work. Now lets hope that the replacement display looks better.

Hope it doesn't get damaged....
Actually, it did hit boxing but only for a moment.

Oh, My Price shows $523.18 for the W9892

Maybe because regardless of the glasses they wear they still officially have 'impaired vision'.

I am assuming that there is no boxing stage because it comes from a warehouse in the US. My assumptions are based on the fact that the Dell service depot quote repair times that are way too short for them to ship the items from Malaysia. My LCD replacement kit was ordered at noon today and by 6pm, it shows that its been shipped.

how did you manage to get a 9-cell battery free from dell? i'll be calling dell in about an hour to get my samsung replacement kit, so any comments would be helpful. do you have to have the in-home service warranty to have the dell tech swap out the screens? i decided not to get the warranty, so are they just going to build me a whole new laptop to exchange?

There are 3 ways they can go with this.

They can send you one, and you can replace it yourself. To do this, you'll have to convince them you know what you're doing. Convincing them is pretty easy, but of course, you have to be willing to do it, which some people aren't. You can mess up the laptop.

They'll just ship you a new system. I don't know what the odds are you'll get the screen you want. (And of course, we don't know yet if the Samsung screens they're replacing the LG's with are in fact better or good at all.)

You can mail it in and they'll change it. I haven't heard of anyone getting this option recently.

The battery story is already posted in the following post:

No, I do not have in home service, so I will be installing the LCD myself. I just went through regular Dell SB technical service.

wow good job. i havn't even tested my battery out yet. guess i'll try that before i'll be giving them a ring. i'm not willing to replace the screen myself. i don't have the time to fiddle with it. i still have classes afterall. so since i didn't buy the inhome-service warranty, i have no chance of a dell tech coming out to replace the screen? i've read the past posts where the dell techs were going to come out for them, but wasn't sure if they purchased the inhome warranty. is that even a deciding factor for the dell tech to come out at all? they should come out anyways even if you didn't buy the warranty.
Since I didn't buy the In-Home warranty either, I was first offered the mailin to rapid response depot service, but I just asked the guy if he could send me the part to install myself and he said ok.

That's the whole point of having the different warranties. You pay more, you get better/faster service. However, Dell is known for making concessions, such as with that guy's batter. You have a perfect right to have the guy come out and change your LCD on the basis that Dell installed a known substandard panel in your brand you laptop. If you argue and huff and puff a bit, you may be able to negotiate something.
yeah i wouldn't expect them to come out and fix my laptop, if i punched a whole through the lcd or something and want them to replace it for me free of labor charges without purchasing in-home service. like you said though, i would expect them to do it because the screen was faulty in the first place. hopefully i'll even have these options of screen replacement instead of them just building a whole new laptop for replacement, then i'll probably stuck with a lg screen again.
Well since my xps2 is still in the preproduction stage, is it possible for me to let them know to install a samsung screen instead of a LG one?

And I'm still confused about this W9892 thing. Is it one of the three possible screens that Dell uses for the 9300, or it is a totally different one that you have to pay extra for?

Not unless you're good buddies with a Malaysian elf.

It's the part number for a replacement kit, not for the LCD itself.
