9300 owners: with the samsung replacement kit W9892 - Page 12

I guess I'm lucky about the light leakage thing. The more I use the Samsung, though, the more I see the sparkles again. I did just compare the screen to a Compaq X1000 (wsxga matte) and the white is about the same, maybe a tad whiter on the 9300 Samsung.

I just fiddled with the nVidia view settings again, and think I've improved display some more for my taste. Maybe we should have a "Post your favorite Color Correction settings for your 9300 Samsung LCD" thread. Yup, it looks quite sharp now and the white background/black text looks much better, which is the only real problem I have with it.

Digital Vibe: 1/6th
Bright: 92%
Contrast: 100%
Gamma: .81
Sharpning: 0
Head in sand: neck deep

Do these settings have any effect during games? I think they do not as the game engine will take direct control of the video card output. I haven't tested it, though.

That's why I say people are brainwashed by coming here. i was. The instant i put the samsung in I was like wow it's so much better... About 5 minutes of use and I hated it.

Anyway- Okay LG is reinstalled. After putting the LG back in, it looks even better then I remember. even adjusting your gamaa and stuff... if you go from that to the LG, the LG color is far superior.

After going from the LG to the samsung replacement to the original LG ... the LG is the clear winner.

Yay, i'm not insane- just got picky eyes... i dont think *everyone* can see it. Its kind of how sensative your eyes are. Anyway the LG doesn't have it, only the samsung. It was driving me insane, glad to have LG back in LOL

So it really might just be that by chance certain people get better Samsung's and others get better LG's. It sucks that there is no sure way of knowing for sure unless you have several replacements. UNInspector, I hope your second Samsung is the keeper.
On another note, I am still really amazed with Dell's technical support because I just spent 5 minutes on the phone with them to thank them for the replacement screen and to ask them if I could buy a LCD rubber bumper from them. I need an extra one because while I was putting the screen back yesterday, 1 slipped off the desk and fell into the heating duct. Instead of charging me for it, he just said sure....I will have them send you 3 at no charge just incase you need extras. He even joked with me saying that hopefully I don't need to replace my LCD again, thus requiring the removal for the rubber bumpers. So if anyone is missing 1 or 2 of those bumpers, I will be happy to mail my extras in a regular envelope to you at no cost.

Maybe you got yourself a bad Samsung. But I'll never put that POS LG back in my laptop. My new Samsung is not just a little better than my old LG, it's a LOT better. The LG was a nice looking screen as long as it wasn't displaying anything too lite-colored.

Jim-H, that's what I am talking about...the Samsung is much better and people here were flaming me last night.

Really? I thought the consensus all along was that the Samsung was a far superior screen. I know mine is.

I'm sure there are good and bad ones from both manufacturers. I'm just glad I got one that I'm happy with. That's all that matters to me.

People were questioning you, because you said the LG was good, but then got the Samsung, and are now saying it's good. But I agree with you that the Samsung is significantly better. It's brighter and the sparkle is less pronounced and I believe most people who have nothing better to compare it to, would find it from acceptable to great.

OK...for anyone wondering what the Dell Part Number to the LCD Rubber Bumpers for the 9300 are. Its J7841. I have 2 extra for anyone who is missing one or two and don't wanna go through Dell. I will just stick them in an envelope for you.

For those with a samsung, look in the bottom right and left corners. It looks grainy and dilated. (hope this doesn't make you hate the screen lol)

And if you cough or move your head even semi fast, or even blink, you will see lines running along your little blue start menu/taskbar/clock what ever you wanna call it.
That's 20x more annoying then sparkles could ever be.

And i would go as far to say yes, the samsung is slightly less sparkley, but it's their. And it's more noticable to anyone with sensative eyes because it's patterned. Every few minutes i felt like I was looking at one of those posters you stare at for 10 minutes and then an image appears through the patterns. LOL

As for the brightness and viewing angles, the manufacture specs even say the LG is better in both those regards.

Ergo...you probably do have a kick-butt Samsung...
It's just the parts-game to find a diamond in the rough is very time
consuming and not worth it to me.

That could be it UN... It would make sense. I've heard LCD manufacturers toss away a large percent of the LCD's make because their is such variability causing errors and defects dead pixels etc.

whats this about???
wow...after all these descriptions and the final admission by hardcore proponents/opponents of LG and Samsung that the judgment is not just *somewhat* but rather *totally* subjective (unless you have a flat-out defective screen), I honestly believe I'll probably like any screen I get at this point...I'm not too 'picky' or discerning of an LCD-guy...

if a tech comes to your house to replace the screen , and you dont like it , can you ask him to replace it back to the screen you had before , what should i do , call up dell and ask them to right that in ....so the tech will know in advanace that there can be a chance he may do double swaps of the LCD.
Lu if you can, just do it yourself. That way you can be extra careful. He'll probably have his dirty hairy hands all over your LG. Then if you want it back, it will look like ass. I was careful as #$% and I still had finger prints all over the bottom right edge of it when i removed it.
The hardest part is separating the LCD bezel from the lid. How did you guys do it? The manual suggests using your fingers to get it started, but my finger nails weren't up to the task. I had to use a screw-driver to pry it open, and I managed to slice off a small sliver of Mg-alloy from my lid in the process....
The tech will be taking the LG with him, I'd imagine, so LuLu won't have the chance to 'put it back himself'...? He will have to make a snap 60 second decision on whether he likes the new screen or whether he needs to have the poor besotted foole reinstall the old part! Another reason onsite service is useless when you are provided a manual that details every stage of laptop dis-assembly until the thing is just a bucket of plastic rails...

Dell is really incredible in that regard, IMHO...the first time I saw the XPS1 manual, I was seriously startled! Granted, it was my first laptop, but I hadn't expected to be *invited* to open it up and poke around...? I build desktop systems all the time, but I was nonetheless prepared to leave the XPS1 a complete mystery, as I was still afraid of screwing something up because of the 'proprietary' construction of each manufacturer (e.g. Dell, Alienware, Sager, etc...oh, excuse me: Dell and Clevo). But Dell literally tells you how to service the thing yourself: I mean, if the 'techs' they hire are worth their salt, one glance at the manual will be enough to guide them through any repair necessary...! Easypeasyniceaneasy is the XPS1 modular build...

Yah the guy is going to run off after he gets that thing back together. I meant he should just say he's going be busy all week and have them deliver the screen so he can do it himself.

@dellbert - i just used my fingers. I wouldn't dare bring my screw driver anyware near the LCD to pry haha. Especially thinking I might be putting the LG back*which i did*. The trick is just to leverage off the little metal hinges and tug the whole bezel to one side till it comes off in one corner. From there its a cake walk. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out how to get the corner off the first time. Only a few minutes the second time.

The tech I had would have certainly done that. He was very adament about knowing if I was satisfied with his work. I hope you get one like him. He was clean and professional as well as personable. BTW, he did not remove the taped on LCD face protection sheet until the laptop was completely reassembled so I got 0 finger prints.

I guess we need some sort of poll targeting people who got Samsung replacements for the LG. I'm quite sure the sparkle effect is way less on the Samsung, though it is also quite definitely there. I also do not doubt the others who prefer the LG. But I also doubt there is very much variation in quality in the LG or Samsung screens, so that just leaves subjectivity. Long live opinions, everyone should have one.

OK, now to see if I can swap my Sony screen for the 9300's. Anyone want to buy a Sony? It has a brand new Samsung screen in it. Metallic images look incredibly real on it.

That was the same problem I had when I replaced mine yesterday. mbman, I am glad that you didn't have too much trouble doing it. Once again, the key here is to take in slowly and don't use a screw drive to pry anything! You might end up with a 4 inch scratch on your LG LCD, then you are really stuck with the Samsung.
