9300 owners: with the samsung replacement kit W9892 - Page 16

UNInspector, I am glad that you have found a good Samsung screen. For the longest while, I thought I was seeing wierd because all you guys loved the LG and I really thought that my K9922 Samsung is much better than the LG.
I hope I can get lucky, I'm on my second replacement. The first one while great looking (minor sparkle and light leakage) had 2 dead pixels (beside eachother)...I know you can barely see 2 dead pixels on a 1920x1200 display but my eyes are constantly drawn to them. Crossing my fingers on screen #3.

Hey UN... so what's the deal. You do see that pixelization going on in the bottom right and left corner??! That to me that was a deal breaker. Sparklies are toerable. 1980s' version of an LCD is not. haha

Since swapping out my LG for the Samsung, all my seizures, headaches, and involuntary twitching have gone away.

---> LG

---> Samsung

Mbman....

It came down to the difference between that or the "dark" corners on the LG......Either way.....Happiness with your screen is what matters.

I agree U.N. It's just unsettling because I was hoping mine was just a freak that had those nasty corners.

Glad you got one you like though!!
mbman, can you explain exactly what "pixelization" in the corners look like?

ok i got my 2nd samsung screen today, i will install later on. for jose and for un inspector. next to the box that was ship to you guys did it have a refurbished yellow sticker on it. cause mines did i just wanted to know if these screens are used. thanks
post #310 of 379
LU, I don't see any yellow sticker on hte box. However, Jose said his has a refurb label. What kind of sticker? Is it on the shipping box? I'll double check my box. Although Dell is allowed to use refurbished components for replacement, I don't think that anybody will get a refurb od Samsung now. But it will be soon if the LCD madness keeps rolling.

I just got my XPS Gen 2 today, it has a LG model X9065 LCD, has any one with a I9300 got this model? It is as sparkly as my i9200 screens so I called Dell for replacement and the Samsung W9892 is listed for the XPS so I'm going to to get that one. Thanks LeeU

Yes, it had the "yellow" sticker but it doesn't matter.

Ladies & Gentlemen of Notebookforums....

Today, I called Dell and returned my 9300 . They'll pick it up in a day or so...The performance of the laptop nor the replacement screen were my issue. It's just that last night, I acquired a few hundred dollars from an unexpected sale so....I've decided to go ahead and change over to the "XPS2". I have to wait a few days for a refund before I can order the XPS2 but hey......I can wait a week.

I know....I'm running out of character space in my signature
but hey......if I'm already dropping 2K on the 9300....a few more $ for the XPS2 isn't that bad....if the funds are available. Anyhow's it won't be easy.....I'll be lapp-less again for a few weeks.

I kind of started another post which describes it more. I called it pixelization for lack of a better word.

The LCD pixels look distorted and stand out like they are more seperated or something. You can see them refreshing, it looks like stripes are going across your taskbar.

It reminds me of an old digital camera I had in 98. It's how the little LCD on the back looked.

ok guys i owe dell a apoligy , i made a big mistake. last friday when i had a tech come in to replace my screeen, what i thought was a messed up screen was actually a good screen. let me explain. i have a background that i got in the internet, that i put on my laptop. now since i had the LG screen brightness and contrast down to 85, everything was looking better especially my background which is 90% black and like on the right side its like a alien's head poping out from the sides. well on friday before the tech installed the new samsung, i put the settings back to default. well when we put the samsung screen on my i notice sort of like white marks on my background like spots and scratches. right away i said this screen is messed up(tech agreed), take it back , replace my LG and have dell send me one so i can replace. well we did that. on that same friday i called dell and had them send me out another samsung screen. well it came today monday. i started off by removing the screen bezel. took the bottom part easily then i had the LG screen face down on the keyboard with a small towel in between. i called up dell and said can i use the same wires or use the new wire that came with the screen, they had different things on them so they recommended to use the one that came with the samsung instead of using the LG one. so i removed that cover where the power button is at, real nice and slow replaced the wire and put on the samsung screen. So i powered it on. small light leakage which is known for all screens. for those who say they did not get no light leakage which i say is a lie. anyways. it doesnt bother me is small. then once i get to my background i said nooooo the same crap as before the same white marks on my background. i said to myself wait a minute am getting the same marks on the same spots as before. so i was like wait a minute , i changed the background to another black one and what do you know no white spots or scracth marks after all. the problem was that the background i had cant be shown real bright cause they messed it up whoeva made the background. i was like oh my god the screen i got on friday was perfect too after everything was installed , tech put back LG , and sent the samsung screen back to dell. so i wasted all of that for no making sure it wasnt the background. so it was my mistake i did not recieve a bad LCD the first time dell sent me a replacement.

Review on screen.

colors dont look the same as LG more of a lil faded out i guess one can adjust it
on default with gamma down to .89 screen looks a lil better

even with all default you can notice better whites.

in all the screen is alright, i can say i received 2 good samsung screens , instead of 1 bad and 1 good it was my mistake. so guys please dont mention me as receveing a bad samsung as i said before it was my mistake the background i had made the screen look messed up.

LG
+better color display
+small light leakeage towards the bottom, not really noticable
-small sparkle effect
-grainy , dirty white.. can make it better by turning down brightness and contrast to 85%.

Samsung
-color display is alright , but LG wins
-more light leakage then LG
+ better whites on default
+ less sparkle the LG

overall is hard to pick, am still thinking on which screen to keep. you gain and you lose by picking either screen.

am leaning towards the LG cause of the colors, and i was getting used to the dirty whites especially after changing the brightness and contrast made it look better. i do lose brightness on the LG by decreasing the brightness.
The samsung screen black really looks faded out , while the LG makes the black look real black..

so right its a hard pick
dell really made it hard for us to see a clear cut winner, i know others agree with me and those who dont are plain lying

i will test out the samsung screen more with a dvd and movie and ect. would of been nice to recieve to laptops and compare side by side. would of been much easier to pick, having only the lcd makes you wanna switch back and forth just to see which is better. ahhhhhh my head is about to explode.

for those who got the samsung screen, what adjustment do you guys make to make the colors look similar to the LG, i already miss the colors of the LG
post #320 of 379
how do these screens compare to the dell 2001FP, that is all I have to go as reference. I know that many people said the 2001FP had sparkles as well.
