Lu, if you have taken this long to come up with a good reason to get rid of the LG and you still can't find any convincing enough, I think you should keep the LG.

i never wanted to get rid of the LG screen , i just figure hey if the samsungs are better why not get it. I dont think there is anything wrong with that. the both are good in there own way , just like they have something bad in there own way as well. am just trying to decide which is best for me. not from what i read in this site.

as for you, i dont think you can speak on me that much. you was one of the first ones who loved the LG and went and ask for a replacement and i guess you found that you like the samsung more. so i guess to each there own buddy.

Hey Lu, I was just trying to help out man! I was in no way trying to step on your toes or anything.... Yes, I did say that the LG looked good because I did not have another glossy screen to compare with. However, that same weekend....I saw my gf's 700m and that made me think twice and so I decided to get the Samsung to see for myself, and I have not had any problems with my Samsung since then. Once again, I was just trying to help out.

You don't think there is anything wrong with replacing a perfectly good screen just because you're curious of the other one.

If my LG didn't have so much sparkle I would have kept it and been happy. Who cares about the other screen. Unnecessary tech support drives up the cost of my notebook. Maybe I could of gotten a 40% coupon if it weren't for guys like you.

didnt say my orignal screen was perfect. i did say had slight sparkle and dirty whites , made whites look a lil better with some tweaks. and i was curious because i paid the same as everyone did for there screen , if there is another screen thats better in my eyes well your damn right am gonna try and get it. dont think there is anything wrong with getting you moneys worth. to me is gonna come down to a hard choice. both have there advantages and disadvantages , at the end it comes down to personal taste. nah you wouldnt get 40% cause if you did ill be getting one too

Digital Vibrance - off
Brightness/Contrast - 100%
Gamma: 0.89
Dell Quickset - Maximum brightness

Hope this helps.

ill be receiving a another new samsung screen tomorrow thur. thanks to dells great customer support : shout out to gold tech support: , just moments ago i called dell, call took less then 10 mins . spoke to nice guy i told him straight up , my original LG had sparkles, my replacement kit samsung had light leakage. and he said ok, he even bother to check if he can give me another screen different name brand, so i explain to him dell is sending LG's and samsungs, and only samsungs as replacement screens . so i told him to leave a note saying that to double check for light leakage on the new samsung screen and he said ok done. so hopefully 3rd times the charm. am telling you if the samsung didnt have light leakage like i saw , the screen will be really nice, would be one of the best out there. its like saying if the LG had pure white and no sparkles it will be one of the best screens out there as well.

so hopefully i get what i want. i gues its worth taking the plunge on the expensive warranty, dont know why others dont make this sacrife and fork over a few more bucks, it will pay off later on.

example- The dell true notebookforum.com story : LCD's

Good luck! Hopefully the third time is the charm!

viewing angles and eyes hurting

still havent made up my mind if i am going for a complete refund or swap LCD. how about the viewing angles compared to the LG? i adjusted the white and colors so they are looking good. also, my eyes hurt after using this for at least 30 minutes.... as compared to my CRT i was using at 70 refresh, i could not use the CRT at 60 either... has anyone noticed the samsung going easier on the eyes? i might need to find a system with a higher refresh rate.

Well, I have recieved my second samsung replacement screen. The first replacement screen they sent me (2 days) had a small dent in the screen, so I requested a second screen which I also recieved in 2 days.

Here is my experience with the samsung compared to the LG:

0% pixelated corners, period.
5% more light leakage at bottom than LG. (not significant light leakage)
25% more "whiteness" on white backgrounds compared to LG.
40% less graininess than LG.
65% less sparkle than LG.
9% more brightness than LG. (not significant, but noticable)
94% of the color clarity of LG (after much fine tuning, switching between LG and Samsung, I found an equivalent sweet spot)

Here are my settings:
digital vibrance-off
brightness-100%
contrast- 112%
gamma- 89%
Dell quickset- maximum brightness

Bottom line, I am far more happy with this display than the LG.

cheers,
sureloch

9% brighter than the LG? Were you using a photo meter, or are you just pulling these numbers out of your butt?

I'd say it's fairly safe to apply occam's razor in this case.

Anyone who actually OWNS and knows how to use a photometer will know that it's poor experimental method to not quote the equipment you are using for testing.

Out of a good eye. I work with colors, shading, lighting. Let's say 8-10%.
Also, how do you quantitatively measure graininess?

Good question. All sparkle appears appears grainy, but not all graininess sparkles. Does that clarify somewhat?
There was also a strange luminecence (besides sparkle) with the LG on whites. The samsung's lighting is cleaner and more even.

The LG is a decent screen, just not for everyone. (the picky)

I agree with sureloch, therefore he must be right. Except the LG I had had way more light leakage than my Samsung, and the Samsung is only 7.53% more bright than the LG, I don't know where the hell he's coming off with 9%.

You agree with sureloch because you have a samsung and you want to convince yourself that it is better. Get real!

He is pulling those numbers out of his smelly butt. The correct figure is 8.89%
