9300 owners: with the samsung replacement kit W9892 - Page 3

I think I have an idea about why there is a higher chance of the LG display showing signs of light leakage than the Samsung. According to the following sites, it shows the thickness of the LG display at 6.2mm versus Samsung's 6.7mm. Since they are both housed in the same assembly, and the LG being 0.5mm thinner might give it a better chance for internal reflections..aka light leakage.

How do you know they are both housed in the same assembly? Light leakage is from the LCD package itself. It has nothing to do with how it sits in the lid, for example.

hmm.... so nobody knows which samsung screen we getting, that part number is the kit number not the screen itself... interesting........i will reschedule my replacement since i got to take care of a couple of things.. dont know if its a good idea or a bad idea.....good being that if others get the screens and say ooooooooooh my god its worse then the LG's ill just tell dell to take there screen back , or if people say the screen is amazing ill be anxious to see how mines will look and will have to wait till wed , thur or friday depending when is my reschedule appointment....dellbert so far dell is using 2 samsungs screens for the 9300, <----correct me if i am wrong.....could it be they just wanted to save those screens for the xps2 and they would rather ship out the LG's so that they will have enough supply for the xps2 screens since people went nuts when the xps2 was on pre-order.....thanks

We don't know if Dell is using two Samsungs. So far, both of them report the same part number from the EDID. And nobody has reported the manufacturer's part number on the LCD itself.

In the days of the 9200, the LCD replacement kit had the same part number whether it contained a Samsung or an LG. It looks like they might have fixed that, and perhaps they can specify a Samsung specifically for replacement. Hopefully, everybody will be happy with the end result.

Mine is coming in through a technician coming to do the replacement. On the chat I had with tech support, they said the technician would call me in the morning. No call when lunch time came around. I called the number they gave me for the technician and got an automated message saying they don't do automated scheduling anymore and that I would be notified when my part arrived. I was feeling a little lost until I checked my service call status on Dell's site and saw that the replacement kit and the palm rest (dunno why) was being shipped overnight.

So I guess I'll get that call tomorrow.

Since I will be doing the replacement myself, I will make sure to post any numbers written on the actual LCD of both the LG and Samsung as soon as I have all the numbers. Hope this helps everyone. I should be getting it on Wednesday, but there is a slight chance that it might come today.

i just did a battery test, and my 6 cell battery only lasts for an hour and thirty minutes, while listening to music with one volume notch, half brightness, and me not using the laptop at all for anything else. lame...how long are you guys getting on your battery? i know joseyu only got an hour and twenty minutes from his. you guys think i should complain about the screen and the battery at the same time or two separate calls at different times?
That's just the battery life of this thing. The screen is a beast. And that music has a sub going. Your vid card is eating power. Unless your just doing it to get a free 9cell, a replacement battery is going to be any better.
They should have offered the 9 cell battery as standard and the 6 cell as a cheaper option because the 6 cell clearly sux and is more appropriate for those that do not plan to remove their laptop from the desk!

My replacement should be here in the next hour or two. I will take some pics of the manufacturer info on the back of each of them if some wants to post them.

I was supposed to get a service call to replace mine today, but the LCD did not arrive at the technician's place. So much for Next Business Day, we're working on the 3rd business day, now.
