I believe they are essentially the same thing. The 855GME chipset uses Intel Extreme Graphics 2 technology.

Oh okay. Thanks.

Yeah the 855GME is the Extreme 2 Graphics...the 845GME is the Extreme 1 graphics...and the new 915GM is the latest integrated, called the 900 media accelerator

same thing, isn't the video controller built into the northbridge? anyways they both the older chipset sucks. the new 900 video controller isn't *BAD* it aint good either

I think the intel extreme graphics 2 is not THAT bad at all. actually, i have been able to play games i never thought i could play. although the frame rates would be slow, i would get parts of games that run beautifully. i have:

DELL Latitude D505 Notebook -
Intel Pentium-M 1.5GHZ 1MB L2 Cache
1024 MB shared DDR-SDRAM @333MHZ FSB
15" XGA Screen
30GB Hard Drive
Intel Extreme Graphics 2 64MB

I have been able to play Half-Life 2, Chronicles of Riddick, Doom 3, Halo: Combat Evolved, and Prince of Persia: Warrior Within. Granted, they all have setting at the lowest detail, i still enjoy playing these game titles.

Hmm I am somewhat doubtful that Intel extreme graphics 2 can run HL2 and Doom 3... But I haven't tried it yet, so I guess I can't definitively say.

It's true, however, that Intel Extreme Graphics 2 is not THAT bad, though only for older games that require minimal 3d acceleration (i.e. nothing of the latest games). I've played Homeworld, Homeworld Cataclysm, Ragnarok Online, and a few other titles with little problems. And this was on a 2.4ghz celeron!

Although, the moment I tried Max Payne, things just went down hill from there...

Its funny you mentioned max payne. i have both max payne 1 and 2 games. they both run pretty well on them. only one problem: in max payne 2, the cut scenes where it is like reading a comic book, i experience slow mouse movements. i tried to fix it with the latest patch but it didnt work.

i find something kinda confusing, i tried to play Bloodrayne, the first one, on my laptop and it did not work. i could play prince of persia: warrior within fine on the minimal graphic detail. they both have similar system requirements. why is i can play one game and not the other?

Well, like I said, this was back when I was using a celeron 2.4... that must have played a role...

enjoy titles at the lowest resolution? thats a contradiction of itself

HL2 works OK on with IE2. Played it right the way through, although the last boss was well hard to do, very choppy.
