Slow down in games ?? Stutters in WOW and Counterstrike

I have 9860 with 3.4 Ghz 1 gig of Ram Single 60 GIG 7200 HD and GeForce 6800 card I have noticed that during both WOW and Counterstrike it will occasionally stutter or stop for a second during gameplay.... a minor annoyance in WOW and a certain death sometimes in Counterstrike...... Any ideas is just too much for the computer with out adding more Ram or is there perhaps a problem with the HD?

Any ideas?

TIA

Tony

I have this exact problem, and can't find any solutions, I have tried everything like turning off all services that are not needed, no virus or firewall running, defrag of hd. It is so frustrating, especially when my Desktop is only a 2.6 P4 with a Radeon 9600 and it runs the games without any problems. My notebook is a 9860 with 3.2 P4 ATI x800 DDR3 80gig WD Scorpio & 512mb ram. I have noticed that the stutters come from the HD as when it does it the HD light comes on which is bizarre because the WD benches quicker in Sandra 2005 then my Desktop.

Do you guys get the studder with vsync disabled? I only get the problem you guys decribe with it enabled, so I think (for me at least) the problem is related to controlled rate.

I've got same problem with HL² and vsync enabled ... someting framerate is very low in the canals without monsters !!! a little freeze during 0.5s ...

But it's perfect with Doom 3 !!! No freeze and no problems with vsync enabled ...

I'm using 71.84 forceware.

It is an issue with the HL2 and CS:S software, not your computer. A LOT of people worldwide are having problems with these 2 games stuttering. Of course, if you go to the Valve Tech Support forum, there are around a million theories and "solutions" to fix it by changing stuff on your computer. It isn't your computer! What actually needs to happen is for Valve to fix their software!

I figured that for HL2, but a few other games I can't account for. My friend has a Geforce FX 5700 Ultra on his desktop, and he gets studder in HL2. It's probably related to Nividia cards and HL2. However, I get the studder in Silent Hill 3 as well.

Does anyone have the Go6800 and not get this studder with any of the mentioned games?

I think I know what it is, I have the same problem in HL2 and CS:S, its the onboard audio, it sucks, and in some instances I KNOW its the culprit. Im getting the auidgy card, I'll let you know whats up.

I think you might be right, I'am having constant stuttering in all games including HL2 & Doom 3 which I can only think is the crappy onboard sound with my 9860.

I notice it the most when theres a new sound clip, like I'll be running down a corridor and a grenade will go off and right before the audio plays there will be a little snag and the frame rate will jump, but a tenth of a second later everything will be fine, still to say the least its F******* ANNOYING!! and as we all well know, that could mean death in CS....ugh $3400 for this beast, I wish they could've done something for the sound, Im really disappointed.

Same here really dissapointed in paying so much for it expecting a top system to play games and get this stuttering, heck my desktop system is only a P4 2.6c with a Radeon 9600 and it plays the games better !!!. I notice you have 2gig of ram, I thought my prob was only having 512mb glad I didn't get an extra 1.5gb to try and fix the prob lol. Advice to anyone looking at buying the 9860 to play games well don't expect a killer games system, for everything else the system works ok.

I think you're a little off there. This system is incredible in every aspect except the sound and unfortunately that plays a huge role in performance on many levels. If we could get some good drivers from realtek that make the damned thing work right this system would be mint. Im not going to count on realtek anytime soon, so I'd bite the bullet and spend a $100 or so more on an external USB soundcard if you dont plan on moving frequently, or the mobile soundcard offered by creative.

I got a chance to see this card in action at the WCG here in san francisco and trust me it works, I saw it and heard the difference in person. It is worth the performance gain ALONE.

Are you guys getting this stuttering while gaming using the wireless mini-pci card?? I had this too with americas army. I fixed it by using a usb wireless adapter ot a pcmcia card... it appears the mini pci wireless card would interfere with the pci 6800 ultra video card when it drew info from the net while the card was loading stuff... Ican't figure a work around and now I can't get the card to recognize the network... so Ill use the pcmcia solution I guess... theres a pci bottleneck or something...

try a hardwired cat cable to your router and it will go away...

Sorry to bust in here. Im an 51m 7700 owner and i have this same problem. But what ive come to realize, for the diagnosis of my laptop anyway, right before my fan starts to increase in speed, i get a stutter. And right before it goes to a steady speed from reaching the peak speed, i get a stutter. Right before it starts to slow down, i get a stutter. Then it repeats itself. I occasionally have to alt-tab out let the fan slow down for a bit before starting to play again. Although i dont play CS:S, i get this problem playing ANY graphic intensive game, specifically shooters like BF2 and America's Army.

This is just what I noticed after weeks of it happening to me. Im not sure if any of you noticed the same thing or not. I did not have any of these problems for a few months until a little over a month ago. I had this problem right before i had to send my laptop in for repairs for a different problem. I ended up having my motherboard replaced, in which i got the updated revision board, and i still have the same problem.

Oh, and i dont have any sort of internal wireless card either that would interfere with my video card. And its the same symptoms, with or without a pcmcia wireless card installed or not. Im guessing a power issue, sort of like a power surge or something.

Damn Bjim, just read those phase/dates for your Alienware. Once upon a time I was going to buy one but, after WAY too many bad customer support stories, I abandoned any Alienware ideas.

I just ordered my 9880 this past Sunday, the 10th. It was put together on the 11th, shipped today 12th, and UPS is showing arrival of 15th, Friday.

Thank God for smaller, more efficient companies with superior customer service!

My fingers are crossed that I have no dead pixels and slowing/chugging problems!

Hi, I have the same problem but I have given up on getting it to work and went back to my desktop. My notebook actually reboots itself after about min of game play. Is there a mini-pci sound card that can be installed on the D900T's(AW 7700, Sager 98XX) to be able to just upgrade the onboard sound, or is the only option to use external sound with an adapter. Good thread because it seems alot of people are having this problem.
