DVD to PC, I know this has been asked before...

I am looking for a very simple DVD Ripping program so I can just pop in a DVD, and rip the movie in .AVI better format, all the sites I find have you rip the DVD then use another program to encode it. Are there any programs simple enough so I can just set what resolution I want and click go?

I would try DVD Shrink... The easiest program I have seen, and it's free...

The programs does not convert to .AVI though...

dvd shrink will rip but it will not decode the vob files. best think to do use dvd decrypter and then dr divx to make it divx or just use dvd decrypter to make an iso of the dvd.

I'm trying to understand what you mean when you say you want to rip in .AVI "better" format. Do you mean Divx? Or do you mean a more standard AVI (Uncompressed, Huffyuv, etc.). But anyway if you are willing to spend a few bucks I would highly recommend ImTOO DVD Ripper. It will rip the DVD directly to VCD, SVCD, Divx, MPEG, AVI etc. I have this program and I like it a lot.

If you don't want to spend any money you might check to see what they have listed on www.videohelp.com under the tools section. Maybe give DVD2AVI a try.

I use a free software package called fair use LE, it actually allows you to put it in auto mode. you pop the dvd in. and let the program rip ( in auto mode) and come back 3 hours later, to find a divx file for the dvd. A free DVD ripper. It also works for those people that have media centers it allows me to take all the movies that I purchase with me on my archos AV 420.

I wouldn't recommend that program, or any one step program. From personal experience I can say if you want a quality rip, you'll need to use multiple programs.

I use...

DVD Decryptor to copy DVD to the hard drive.

FlaskMPEG to encode the video.

DVD2AVI to save the audio to a WAVE file.

Virtual Dub to join the video to the audio, and to encode the WAVE into MP3 to save space.

There are many settings you can experiment with, especially with the codec you decide to use. I'm still learning about stuff and I've been doing this for a few months now.

You'll need the codec too, something like DIVX.

Have you used the IMToo DVD Ripper program? I ask because after seeing the process you go through, if you haven't used it yet then you might want to give it a try yourself. To think that in order to get a quality rip you must use multiple programs is incorrect.

Let me explain why I like this particular program. I've been doing video ripping, editing, etc for a few years and have tried a lot of programs. It's one thing to rip a DVD and get VOB files on your hard drive, but it's another thing to get them as an editable AVI file. IMToo will rip the whole disc, a specific chapter or chapters, or a segment based on your input of the start/stop times you want to get. The important part is that it rips directly from the DVD to an AVI file (or mpg etc) and keeps perfect audio sync. I always use it to rip a Huffyuv AVI file which results in a very, very high quality clip.
