Asus M6R

Thread Starter
Hey all.

I've been looking for a notebook for awhile with the following needs:

1) widescreen (preferably wsxga+)
2) good battery life (for university ~4hours+)
3) decent specs for gaming (i.e. 9700 w/ 128mb RAM, ~512 Ram)
4) CD-RW/DVD (DVD Duel if possible)
5) <$2500 AUD

Now the Asus M6N is damn PERFECT - but it is too expensive.

The MSI 510c is also perfect but alas - NO WIDESCREEN!

So basically I need a cheaper version of the M6n or a widescreen version of the MSI510

Which leads to the M6R - I guess this is the way to go - because even though the video card is an inbuilt 9100, it provides everything else the M6N gives (and it will give me incentive to do work instead of play games ha.)

So is there anybody out there with an M6R? What's the battery life like? General Performance? Can anyone point me to a review (i'v looked *everywhere*) How does the screen look?

Any help or recommendations would be greatley appreciated.

Thanks
Ek.

the compal CL56 has no wide screen either, if you need it cheap then the Emachines M6811 is what you want, its about half the price of the M6BNe and about 80% of the speed! good deal, the radeon 9100 generally has shared memory, i recommend against it

The M6R is the low spec version of the M6N. The big difference is that it has integrated graphics and no WSXGA. In other words, no gaming for you.

Mind you, you should be able to get an M6N in Australia for under $2500 these days. Unlike the States, the online shops are usually pricier than B&M here. I bought mine eight months or so back from a shop in Chinatown for $2900 (1.7, DVDRW, 60G, 1G) , so for sure it would be cheaper now.

Failing that, and depending how fixed you are on an SXGA screen, the ITC 6200 (aka Uniwill 2591) is very powerful and very cheap:

There's been a lot of talk lately about the Asus Z71V. I don't know if it will meet your price needs, but it seems to be a lot of computer for the $$$.

2500 aud can get you a lot (isn't aud 3/4 of us dollar?), especially in Australia where the available tech is far ahead of what we have here.

You actually have more options than we do (Lenovo, Samsung, Panasonic, ASUS, etc.)

Also, perhaps reevaluate your need for widescreen? Is it really the shape of the screen that matters to you, or the resolution? WSXGA+ is great, but don't settle for WXGA when SXGA+ is your other option.
