At stated before, my XPS is in the boxing stage and I have been anxious to get this $3700 laptop. However... I'm actually thinking about canceling my XPS2 (XPS GEN2 for all who are using a search engine to find out info on it based on that spelling referece). The reason?
I have entered into buying agreements for many products. I'm 45, and I can tell you first hand that it is a major hassel to buy something expensive only to have problems with it.
I've been searching the internet and what I keep seeing is a problem with Dell's WUGA displays on their VERY EXPENSIVE laptops. I have read that replacements have been offered in some cases, and in others, users have gotten Dell replies of "this is normal for the laptop".
I have spent 1 hour (ONE HOUR) on the phone to reach a LEVEL 2 technical support individual to clarify this SCREEN ISSUE. I've gone through the usual bone heads (one even stating that I can "talk to him because he's almost a level 2 techinical support person"... but I have insisted for a XPS LEVEL 2 TECHINCAL ADVISOR regarding a system I have on order. I was then (and am even there now... 1.24 hours later) on hold with what I am praying is indeed a LEVEL 2 techincal support advisor for the XPS system (they have a specialized advisor for the XPS systems as I have had a XPS system before.. the original XPS).
What bothers me the most is not the usual wait times for a busy company, but the failure of DELL to publically address all the myrid of email messages in multiple forums regarding a screen SPARKLE.
I don't feel I should have to HIT AND MISS with a screen display. Now.. mind ya.. I have also researched ALIENWARE's 7700 Laptop, which will provide more hard drive and other options with what might be a faster processor in some cases... but... I've read multiple posts about Alienware dissatified customers unhappy with their product... and they are issues involving everything from drives not working to other difficulties with poor (and even rude) techincal support.
So.. what does one do in a world where no one seems to care about their job anymore? One might wait until that laptop is so cheap that all the problems are a bit more acceptable... like with a dent on a used car (it's expected to some point). BUT NOT WITH A NEW 3700 LAPTOP!
