Hi Everyone!

Check out this review about the new ACER including benchmarks against our prefered notebook, the M6BNE!!

http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/...100/index.html

BTW, you will notice that the ASUS can still hold its own against the newer Intel mobile platform! Well..except in the 3D department (thanks to the ACER's new Ati X700)

Just ordered mine yesterday, can't wait to have my new notebook here, so I can hug her, and pet her, and take good care of her! I think I'll name her J-LO!

Greetz go to all ASUS notebook owners!

My ASUS will be equipt with the following: Pentium M 1.5GHz (I know, not the greatest but I had one laying around and had to cut some of the costs), 1GB DDR333 CL2, 8xDVD+/- with Dual Layer, Intel PRO Wireless 2195ABG, 60GB 8MB Cache 5400RPM Samsung, 15"4 widescreen...you know, THE WORKS!

Fnny title since your not actually wanting to compare. You just bought the M6BNe, AWESOME by the way.

I am actually really thinking about the asus or the 8103 cant really make up my mind. Although I have some time and will wait for the asus M6V or M6A which are the sonoma platforms of the M6BNe.

If it comes with a x700 128 I might just go for that.

Probably the notebooks based on the new Intel design will be quite expensive, and ddr2 is not better than plain ddr if it runs at less than 667mhz because of increased latency (CL3~4). The only interesting about the SONOMA platform is IMHO the 533fsb and PCI Express. And of course the new graphics for people who like to play newer titles at high resolution. But the rest is just not appealing enough to worth the wait. I realize that some may dissagree, and if you have reason to believe otherwise, reply and let me know, maybe I can STILL learn a few things!

My 0.02 cents

Mobility Radeon X700 is the only good thing about the Acer TravelMate 8100, Sonoma is a major disappointment imho.

Agree. No major performance changes, except the PCIe interface on a Pentium-M processor.

Which, BTW, is HUGE. If you could slap an x800 or a 6800Go in there, you could get near-desktop performance on a 6lb package. Before Sonoma, you had to go to 8lb+ desktop replacement class for that.

Guys, out of curiosity, would you say that Radeon Mobility 9700 is on par with a desktop Radeon 9600XT in terms of performance? I just want to figure out what titles I'll be able to play on my M6BNE when it comes in (like I have any free time for gaming )..and how much time it'll be enough for (1~2, 3 years??)

Y'all might wanna check the following article http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20050126A1001.html, it speaks about the anual growth in the notebook sector. Seems that ASUS enjoys the highest growth in percentage, followed by ACER. Hmmm...two Taiwanese companies overtaking the world.

from what i've seen as far as benchies go... the mobility 9700 was benching right around the same as my FX5900XT and 9500 pro on my main desktops. Pretty good considering it's a laptop.
