ASUS Z71V Appearance

This notebook seems to be a great bargain. I've yet to see a notebook that is both affordable and as feature packed as this one. People, however, seem focused on its appearence. I've seen several pohots of it and it looks very thin and light. It looks average, but I don't think that it looks bad or unsightly. Anyone else have an opinion about this notebook's appearence??

i think it looks pretty good. it's not a stunning notebook by any means but it's better than average. atleast it's "clean" and not gawdy like some notebooks i've seen.

Well, if you've seen other ASUS notebooks, the Z71V kind of lacks...
previous and upcoming notebooks look very attractive, whereas the Z71 series seems to be the outcast...

but then again, we all have our own opinions...

I am waiting till summer to get a laptop, but I am planning on asus, and if nothing else better comes out in the z71v's price range, then this the the lappy that I will buy

Well its not like you take a Corvette or a Shelby mustang with beautiful curves out on the beach for dune-hopping or out to the hills for some off-roading.

You take a butt-ugly power-machine.

And well... I dunno about ugly but the Z71V certainly has the power-machine thing going.

Why not paint it? The Voodoo m515s look pretty sweet. A nice paint job and any itch about not being a beauty kinda dissappears.

Give me a break

I buy a laptop for its use (power/performance/features) not for its looks. If I wanted something that looks good I would go spend an extra $1000 on an alienware, or voodoo which quite honestly seems like a waste of money. Anyway, the z71v looks like a regular old laptop, nothing too fancy but that is good because then it is able to be priced at such a good price point for people who want a well performing laptop and not a new fashion accessory.

I agree - I've ordered one from Evesham - I am getting a much better spec than I could if I were to buy a Sony FS for the same price. At the end of the day, everyone has their priorities and mine is performance - I don't think it looks that ugly like some people are saying.

It's a nice-looking girl, but not a sexy-looking girl, if you know what I mean.

That gray is just so drab, I don't care how shiny the plastic makes it look...I mean, come on, gray???? I'd rather have just plain white or plain black -- but gray????????

The rounded corners are a definitely turn-on, though!

I think there's too much plastic on the lid, on the LCD-side...kinda like black bars on a 4:3 TV (letterbox)...they should have done something with that space.

I still prefer the more streamlined look of the V6V, and very much envy that half-inch difference in thickness -- and even the weight, though a pound is only a typical loaf of bread and, as smilepak's pointed out elsewhere, not noticeable in a backpack, which is how I like to tote my notebook around.

Interesting that it comes in what looks like ASUS' standard box, unlike the V6V.

Yep, I guess I'm getting a Z71V, too! Can't beat the features-price equation. I'm just waiting on Sonoma to take advantage of dual-channel DDRII/533 -- no sense in having a bottleneck like that with new technology!

Ah, good point, yes, it seems "clean," rather "streamlined," though not as much so as the V6V. I too dislike clutter, or a cluttered look -- and thus I think that AudioDJ is completely inane. I wonder how much less a Z71V might have cost without that useless feature.

How?? Use masking tape and an airbrush? I don't fancy spending ~$1,500 more just to get a Voodoo -- which wonderful paintjob is marred by that giant, plain "envy" tag right on the palm-rest, the most obnoxious thing since "Windows" on the side of pre-XP start menus!
